Started typing up a long rant but can't be arsed now. It's shocking that we regressed so much from a comfortable finish last season (and not losing many key players) to this bin fire of a campaign. With all due respect to them as a football club, to be 10 points behind the worst side St. Johnstone have had in years is damning indictment on the Livingston management and players.

Anyway, onto next season...

From a football point of view it’s a no brainer, but here’s a thought. If Martindale did the right thing and fucked off, and Ward has promised to go with him, would all this legal action cease to be contested?

Then the owners have control of the club and would only stand to sue themselves, rendering it all pointless?

Stephen Kelly has shown a marked improvement in the last three matches.

In the 4-2-3-1, you ideally want the central player in the attacking midfield line to function as a playmaker. That means dropping deep into the centre midfield space at times to get on the ball and play passes into the wide attacking mids, out to the advancing full backs, or just combining with the centre mids. Both Shinnie and Stephen Kelly had been tried like this but neither had really done it. They'd shown their ability to be decisive in the final third with quality final passes or goals from their shooting - but neither had looked like playmakers. They hadn't shown that ability to "grab the game by the scruff of the neck", to really direct our play rather than just occasionally apply finishing touches to it. This meant Martindale normally just went with Pittman in that central attacking mid position instead. From Pittman you don't get playmaking either but you at least get high energy and high pressing along with a reasonable goal threat. When Stephen Kelly did play it'd more often be on the left where his job was kept more simple, just to combine with his overlapping full back and look to cross or drift infield and shoot. The thing is, though, that role wasn't ideal for him either as he's not really got the pace you want for it, a Dan MacKay profile of player is better suited to it.

So central attacking mid, as a real "number 10", was always the role we were hoping Stephen Kelly could grow into. The general team malaise and certainly Martindale's tactical shiteness until at least February slowed Kelly's progress this season. However, there's been some promising signs from him since that game away at Hearts. It wasn't just his goals that day but his all round play. He was dropping into centre mid to get on the ball, retaining possession and spraying the passes around. I think the centre mid of Brandon and Holt behind him has hugely helped. Brandon's extra mobility in there has been a bit like adding a second Jason Holt. They've provided a solid platform for Kelly.

That trio of Brandon, Holt and Stephen Kelly would potentially be excellent in the Championship. Brandon will surely be staying but it'll be hard to keep hold of the other two, especially Holt.

See you next season Livi.

Whoo hooo - a new plastic alliance.

PS. can you please clear the seagull shit off the away supporters seats this time - last time I was there it was like someone had been feeding the local gulls herring vindaloo (mind you we were in the corner of the main stand - possibly a cup match?).

Mind you, even with the seagull "deposits" its still an upgrade on Ibrox or Parkhead

Plus Nottingham as well apparently. Not a bad squad to start with in any case though, obviously depending on any relegation release clauses or players leaving because they're not wanted or don't want to be here.

George

Welch-Hayes  -  Donnellan  -  New CB  -  Brandon

Holt  -  Pittman

Sole  -  Kelly  -  Bradley

Yengi

You could scrape a full XI if you wanted with Brandon/Sangare at CB/LB, but would like to think we won't go into another season shoehorning players into positions... surely? Brandon at CM has been a bit of a pleasant surprise but would still like to see him in a more natural full back role.

Seeing as our bench in that instance would be Carson, Pittman, Sangare, and Lawal (and Nottingham if he actually is staying) - I can't wait for Martindale to bring in another 3 centre mids.

Any idea what positions the other 2 players that have agreed to sign for us play?

No idea. If they're both CBs then it's a good start

I would be happy if hey were part of the annual youth release cycle - we did pretty well with Halkett and Kelly

It used to be one of our best signing strategies but we recently we don't seem to target the young lads released by the rangers, celtic, hearts etc as much. It's something we might benefit from going back to next season as a lot of these players are often desperate to prove people wrong

After going on a thread and filling in our top flight finishes since the split was introduced, it got me interested in where we spent our seasons since we became Livingston in 1995. I reckon we've spent 11 seasons in the top flight, and 12 seasons in the 2nd tier.

So by my reckoning;

SPL/Premiership - 11 seasons from 2 stints.

1st div/Championship - 12 seasons from 4 stints.

2nd div/League One - 4 seasons from 2 stints.

3rd div/League Two - 2 seasons from 2 stints.

Is that right?

Why is Martindale being afforded the opportunity to keep going?

Saw a fan put a thread together of Martindale's last 18 month performance and its a shocking read.

why is no-one absolutely no one challenging him?
