If they didn't tell you to phone this evening again if you didn't get a call it I think you're free. I assume it's in case first choice jury members pull a sickie. P.S. This was a couple of months ago in Inverness. 39 minutes ago, GordonD said: Same here when I was on the panel three or four years ago (pre-Covid). I had to phone in each morning but always got a recording saying I didn't have to turn up. Then on the third or fourth day the message said I was no longer required. Last night's message said to phone again tonight, so I suppose we'll see. I'm off work this week. I really don't see how this system works if they pick anyone who's employed.

I’m not going to lie, having to leave the body in undergrowth and return later with a bobcat on a trailer is a bit of a pain in the arse.

I phoned last night and was told I might be contacted between 9 and 1:30. I'm guessing I'm not getting a phonecall today. Does this mean I'm free? Or more likely to be phoned tomorrow? How has several centuries of the law reached a point where this is the most efficient means of selecting a jury? I was cited starting on Monday this week. Got the same message Sunday night. Got a phone call on Monday morning saying they were selecting jury and did I have anything on that might stop me attending up until Friday. I have a nurse appointment on Friday morning so they excused me. Edited September 27, 2023 by Honest Saints Fan
Melanius Mullarkey
State of the justice system these days It would surprise me if when you call back to check, they give you the suspects name and ask you to press 1 for guilty, 2 for not guilty.

I suppose I could say I have an urgent testicle appointment on the Friday.

Relax, just remember how many people better than you will get out of it or get picked before they reach you.

It’s a legal requirement whether you’re employed or not and I believe everyone gets the same day rate regardless of what you earn. I don’t know how they can justify not picking up the bill for jurors loss of earnings if that’s still the case.

A couple days ok, but what if you got stuck on something like Letsby, was that not 8 months or something? How can someone lose that salary? Not to mention the employer suddenly realising they don’t need the person if they don’t bring someone else in.
Deanburn Dave
Loss of earnings for jurors is capped at £65 per day for first 5 days. £130 per day for days 6 to 100 !!!! The price of justice.

BFTD
I thought all the chat about me being on a watchlist was just larks until I realised just how many people on here have been called up for jury duty. Seems like everyone's been called up at least once. Someone once said they'd been called up four times, which I didn't think was even allowed. The Man is clearly worried about my particular brand of sexy justice.

tamthebam
A Court clerk friend of mine chose Charlie Reid of the Proclaimers to be a juror and he did it. So if he can do it, and he's a global megastar, none of you losers have got any excuse!
DA Baracus
Cited twice, within a few months of each other. Each time I got my work to write me a letter that got me out of it.
scottsdad
Never been called up. My mum was a few years ago. Whilst my old man was a serving copper she wasn't allowed to, but within a couple of months of him retiring she was cited.
