I know the lad and hope he goes on to have a decent career although I do worry that he's not quite big/strong enough to cope in League One (as old fashioned as that may sound). Sounds like you have a decent first XI if you can keep them all fit. Good luck for the coming season. James Berry was at school with my son and more recently I've seen him play in the Dev' team a few times. I'd agree that he hasn't the build or physique to cope with more agricultural types we'll meet in L1 but he is still only 18 and has definite potential. He's not a your clever tricky type of player but more of the solid and dependable type, he is difficult to dispossess and though unspectacular uses the ball well. He can occasionally go un-noticed in games but that's often down to the fact he keeps it simple and doesn't do many things wrong. As he matures If he fills out and builds himself up a bit I can see him being the solid midfield lynchpin that every team needs.

He's 21 ex-Celtic youth and was on loan at the Rec prior to Celtic releasing him, Jack Ross gave him a 12m contract (now expired) and there were even earlier rumblings that he may be joining Mr Ross again in Paisley. He was on loan with Dumbarton before signing for Alloa last summer. Sons fans felt he was good in attack but weak defensively. I didn't think that was an issue and he dealt well with some decent attackers, absolutely destroyed Mulraney of ICT in the League Cup. I'd hope he'd get a move to the Championship, he earned it. Not such a big deal for us if he goes with Goodwin having already brought in a very capable LB in Meggatt, indeed I think we expected all season that Calum would be away this summer. RRFC1989
Heard a wee whisper that a former player from last season may be returning. Hope it's Lennox and not Brennan!! I've heard its been agree'd for months that Lennox will be coming, its a matter of when not if.

Might it be Pavol Penksa? Not mentioned in the lists of retained/released players, and remains on the 'players' section of the website. Only other players on there are under contract, or Osei/Thorsen/Thomson who we know have been offered contracts.

For similar reasons it might by why Osei and Thorsen are allowed to leave too.

Dumbarton fans seemed to like him so will probably be a decent signing for EF at this level.
Michael W
Having been relegated, we are in no position to offer wages that make it worthwhile for players to give up their day job to go full time. In that regard, ruling out bringing in any PT players was maybe not the best move for us to make.
CALDERON
It’s a difficult situation to find ourselves in, as we are between a rock and a hard place. We are bottom of the pile for full time players, and not enough of a draw to convince the best part time players to go full time. We are fortunate in that we have a relatively solid foundation already signed up. If we don’t go up though, will be an even more difficult situation to be in.
Ro Sham Bo
For now, we need to be concentrating on youngish guys who have been full-time before or who feel that giving up a full-time job is a risk worth taking. The older a player gets the less likely it is that they will take such a gamble. If we stay down we will need to look at changing the model.
renton
So, what do we still think we need? Up top seems the most well served with Buchanan, Spence, Vaughan and Court available, as well as Osei from the U-20s if he signs back on. Central midfield you have Robertson, Callachan and Matthews, assuming we don't lose either of the latter two. I'd really hate to see Davo get another run out in central mid this year, I suspect he'd feel the same. So unless there is someone in the development team looking ready to step up, I still think we need another body in there. Wide player wise, we've only really got Barr and maybe Thornsen if he re-signs. Another body required there. Central defence is Benedictus, Murray and Davidson. Always feel like you should have 4 decent centre backs to choose from. Backup goalie and left back are obvious musts. So looking at, what? 5-6 signings still needed? Personally, can we get somebody who strike a dead ball? Sick of conceding direct free kicks and not beating the first man at corners. It'd be nice to give other teams something to worry about from us in that department for a change. I don't care if he's a useless fat b*****d of a passenger who can't run the length of himself at this point. We might get away with having to sign a back up keeper if we're able to utilise Rory Brian. Think we'll see a couple of new signings and the rest being made up loans and youth players. I get this niggling feeling that having signed Spence and Buchanan we're low on funds already. Purely a gut feeling more so than having any knowledge on our budget.

renton
Just now, Specky Ginger said: So, basically re-sign Ryan Conroy? Something like that. We aren't going to get the complete midfielder, we've got some good athletes, willing runners and all round decent players, but it'd be nice to have a specialist, someone who can put a ball reliably where the opposition wishes we wouldn't. What always got me was how little Skacel got near dead balls given his ability to strike a ball was the fucking reason we signed him - beyond Locke's incompetence and wanting to give his mate a wee retirement gig.
Scottydog
I'll be amazed if we sign any more than 2 after Thomson never mind 5 or 6 we just won't have the budget to run a big squad of experienced players. Jason Thomson, a GK (I'm convinced it'll be Lennox the more I think about it) and a left back. I honestly think that'll be about it unless we can sell a central midfielder and bring in another wide man.

A torn hamstring is one thing but does a broken wrist and jaw from a collision make you injury prone? Cuthbert on the other hand is a risk I'd say. He's been injured on and off since we signed him and had two lengthy lay offs that have both required surgery...what if the latest one isn't a success.
