Paul Smith to caretaker the job through seasons end, with an understanding that he and the CEO will be moving on, another sacrifice to reduce pressure, although that may not work. The Club to go with an under 40 manager in an attempt to appear forward looking, but if they don’t involve other parties in the search, will likely make a hash of this too. The only hope I see in your suggestion is Paul Smith, due to the success the team had when John was laid up early in the season. That said, I reckon they are a package and if one goes they both go.

For sure, the playoffs could be a pipedream in a fortnight's time but realistically, the season is just then a lame duck. Get the season finished, take stock in the close season & make a decision on who's manager next season then. Yup finishing 7th is an upgrade or 8th is where we deserve to be. Hardly sacrificed on the alter of expediency, his results and style of play have been honking for months, as for Smith ...... no thanks him and his Mrs should disappear into the sunset at the same time Berra could be a good shout, Steven Glass another, also Jack Ross, Ferguson and McPake you can put straight in the bin

Raith Against The Machine
This is a very silly conversation. Again, with the now usual caveat that I'm talking about this purely from a footballing perspective, none of the names mentioned (who are realistic) are better football managers than John McGlynn. Just look at some of the jobbers who have picked up Championship jobs this season, it's a real wasteland out there. The team is on absolutely shite form at the moment, and McGlynn has made some bad decisions - today's setup chief among them - but he's the same manager who had us unbeaten for 15 games earlier this season, who beat Aberdeen, and who has only been knocked out of cup competitions by Celtic. We're not going to finish 7th or 8th, but even if we did, McGlynn would still be a better option for next season than Barry Ferguson or James McPake, for f**k sake.

We were competing with you in league1 and beating you. The improvement he has made to your team is extraordinary. Its typical for a team in the second season in a higher league to hit problems, fall back before moving forward. Be careful what you wish for. You have had plenty managers who have set you backwards, like us. Again only talking from a football perspective

CrossgatesCynic
Aye, there's nothing like the mention of Derek Adams or James McPake to reinforce that sometimes you're better keeping a hold of the cards you have.

Broken Algorithms
If we punted John McGlynn to bring in McPake, a man who fluked second place with a Dundee team who had a far higher budget than us last season, then I'd really be wondering what the f**k we'd be doing. He's an absolute fraud of a manager who should be nowhere near our level. He got promoted by signing as many players as he could who had won the Championship before and hoped that it stuck. Results really do need to pick up and I'd be surprised if we find our way into the playoffs.
