Last season when teams used aggression we struggled, 2nd leg against Partick. He haven't changed that this season and I said at the end of last season we need presence and pace. So a ball winning, tough centre mid would be good. We've addressed the defence but there are areas further up the park that also need addressed. william somerville Posted June 29 Share Posted June 29 An entertaining wee trip to the East of Fife made the journey on the new train service so have seen bits of Fife that I have never seen before. East Dock Bar as welcoming as always 60/- beer very good wish there was somewhere in Kirkcaldy that had it on tap. Back to the game we were a wee bit rusty and I hope Jack Hamilton gets his first touch sorted out and that we play more than one out and out attacker. I know we were two short today but there was enough on show to make us excited. One more wee moan Uncle Fester at least kept one player up the park when we had a corner and for the past ex amount of seasons we fail to do this therefore giving the opponents first choice on a cleared 50/50 ball. McGlynn was also guilty of this don't see the reason why this carries on. It's 100% knicker wetting considering the players have been in training 4 times and played in a testimonial game today. The season doesn't begin for weeks. We've signed "presence"in Fordyce and Hanlon, which allows us to move brown back to cm (hopefully) permanently, which gives us more dig and" presence" there also. It allows us to play Stanton as a proper 10, giving us more "presence" further forward. Jack Hamilton has also been used pretty much exclusively for his "presence" as a striker with us last season also. It's the first PRE season friendly. We are too easily bullied and if you think Jack Hamilton is a presense up top then he needs to stay on his feet to be that presence. The ball basically bounced off him and never got held up. The team have not had one full week of training yet. I said we played jack Hamilton in that way. I haven't given an opinion on it. How can you say we are too easily bullied in a PRE season game one week after half the squad where probably drinking cocktails etc on a beach, with any real confidence? MICMAC Posted June 30 Share Posted June 30 (edited) Just watched the highlights and what I saw was a team with 4 days preseason training behind them. Considering that apart from Fordyce and Freeman it was basically the same team as last season that played a pretty meh first half. 2nd half was a different story. The added new players looked a lot sharper and more eager to get the ball forward. One thing that was glaringly missing was Vaughan and Stanton. Those balls across the box are food and drink for them both and they both pull defender away to allow others to come in behind. Really missed their movement. Murray said it in his interview that we need to bring another forward in. I know Gabby McGill has been touted but I don't think he's the answer. Can't see it being a young guy though. PS. Hope that wasn't our supporters booing at the end, if so it was probably that knob that sits 3 rows behind me at San Starko. Does nothing but slag our players off all game.
