Supras
Anyone here at Caley? The title says "Who's Going to Uni" not "Who's going to Clown College". But in all seriousness the topic starter was from Caley... Oh yeah, and I've not been a fan of student journalism on the whole but they seemed to have stepped it up this year. Articles about some guy in the international society fucking off with thousands of pounds and getting a member of staff to (anonymously) rip the shit out of the "Epic fail" MyCampus. Spiders For Life
I successfully managed to pick a class through Pegasus, which I found out on the first day back, doesn't actually exist anymore and shouldn't have been on the available classes to choose. I always seem to end up getting messed around with my economics classes, never seem to have similar problems with politics.
Poet of the Macabre
To whomever it was that asked, I'm studying Journalism. Also doing modules of history and global cinema. I have met a fellow Pars fan as well! Wonders will never cease...
Mushroom
hmmm 'my god man' isn't a good way to start that sentence. It's certainly very odd that I chose to use that expression. That's how mind-numbing Nietzsche is, I actually made a dedication to a fictional sky fairy.
yoda
A relaxing first week back. The course for both Politics and HRM looks fairly interesting this year, and the lecturers are decent enough so far (including one for Contemporary British Governance that sounds like Dale Winton but acts like Matt Smith's Doctor Who). Good times ahead, even with a large-ish workload in this semester, but I like that since it means I'll be kept busy and not pissing about. On a another note, the cost of books is outrageous. Even Amazon hasn't been much help.
Marshmallo
Currently sitting in the JCMB. If youre a maths or physics nerd at Edinburgh and you see someone on P&B, come and say hi! Main library 4 life -
FFC_GJS
Currently sitting in the JCMB. If youre a maths or physics nerd at Edinburgh and you see someone on P&B, come and say hi! I'm in Darwin library atm but my afternoon lectures are in JCMB. Main library 4 life I agree but Darwin is more convenient.
DeadStar
Had a piss easy class test today, was done within half an hour. Any P&Bers at Heriot Watt?
vikingTON
On a another note, the cost of books is outrageous. Even Amazon hasn't been much help. This is perhaps History-specific (though I did politics in Second Year too) but I have not bought a single book since First Year. That's what the Library is for. Granted History doesn't work with textbooks so you can take any of the books on a given subject. Are the boring student politics wankers still 'occupying' the McCance building? i presume that was why my lecture yesterday was switched to the Colville Building, with such disruption they're really making a point to us all... -

If you are I think we have the same guy for Research Methods as he mentioned something about doing Contemporary British Governance this year too. Count yourself lucky that you didn't get the lecturer who used to take that class as he was undoubtedly the least interesting lecturer I've had. He did mention something about him doing Research Methods as well, so it must be the same guy.

Are the boring student politics wankers still 'occupying' the McCance building? i presume that was why my lecture yesterday was switched to the Colville Building, with such disruption they're really making a point to us all... I can get away without buying books for Politics this year as the library has a decent enough supply of books, and I think a couple of them are also available as an electronic resource. For HRM though getting course textbooks seems to be needed since the library only has two maybe three copies of them. I don't begrudge paying for a book that is a decent size but for a pishy wee book I'm not forking over cash for it unless I have some spare, which I don't at the moment. As for the McCance "occupation" I don't think they are. I had a lecture in their on Wednesday and it was fine, although there was apparently (could just be a rumour mind) going to be a RUK demo following the tuition fee news. On the topic of politics wankers, we had one guy get up and give us a speech on why he should be our class rep for Modern Political Thought, he spent his few minutes of speaking time telling us that if he was a class rep then he would ensure no cuts would happen in the politics department, and completely missing what I see as the point behind class reps. Unfortunately he got one of the slots because as soon as you mention the word "cuts" the majority of people in Politics this year and last started screaming "REVOLUTION" and foaming at the mouth
vikingTON
95% of the people involved in student politics are certifiable wankers. Of which, the anti-cuts Solidarity-backed group is by far the most embarrassing. -

Indeed, especially the middle class, Che Guevara-t-shirt wearing socialists.
Marshmallo
I don't know what it's like at other Universities, but here we always have folk recruiting for the "Socialist Workers' Party". "Worker" is the key word for me, they don't seem to see the irony. -
JamboMikey
Indeed. The wierd thing about Uni is meeting loads of people that have the same naive sorts of opinions about the world that I had when I was about 15.

Thats right, because no students have ever, are currently involved in, or ever will, work.
