Jut looking at a new company car and hadn't realised how much the Scottish Government hammers them. The car I'm looking at would cost me  £92 a month if I lived anywhere else in the UK, but  £185 a month because I'm Scottish.

So an Englishman living in Scotland would get it for £92 a month, then?

Eh? Can you talk me through this or direct me to a tax calculator? Didnt realise Scot Gov had powers over (presumably?) Benefits in Kind?

Go to https://comcar.co.uk/companycar/tax/calculation/?CapCon=&AnnCon=&vehicle_id=0000183109

Tick the Scottish taxpayer box and you get this -

It’s because income tax is higher in Scotland. The car goes in some way towards your salary and takes you into the higher band which is more in Scotland than England. It’s not specific to cars.

But I'm already in the higher band? That's quite a difference between England & Scotland.

(I'm hoping the website have it wrong)

Hmm still doesn’t make sense to me. Do me a favour - only because you know the actual numbers you’re working with - and fire them into the HMRC site and see what that throws back at you? To me, Comcar looks like it’s got a glitch somewhere.

Don't want to do the HMRC site in case it changes my details, but I did find this at https://www.fleetnews.co.uk/cars/car-tax-calculator/?OperatingCycleId=16&Manufacturer1Id=10&ModelGroup1Id=84&Derivative1Id=98265

You may be right about the glitch as it looks like it might be under-reporting the English figures.  Unless England is offering incentives due to it being a hybrid.

HMRC won’t harvest your details on an enquiry  site, I’ve used it often!

But I could - maybe - see that ScotGov haven’t quite kept up with UK Gov’s tax incentivisation to get people into low CO2 hybrids.

Whodathunkit?

ETA:is that cos they actually want us all on public transport and bikes?
