You see, it's size, weight and shape in relation to its total wingthpan means it shouldn't fly. While I remember being told this as a kid, scientists have since ascertained how the wee buggers manage it. The confusion originally came from the belief that they flap their wings up and down, whereas in fact, it's a back and forth, sweeping motion. This apparently creates vortices like miniature hurricanes which is enough to keep them aloft. What the egg-heads still aren't clear on, is how they're able to maintain control once in flight.
