Do Rangers actually believe they should be punished for anything?

A few RFC people say they should- fans, Sally etc but its all bluster.

It seems the buyers don't wanna touch them until they know the punishments, yet the dynamic duo say each punishment makes it harder for them to sell the clubhuh.gif

Tell you what RFC, YOU decide the punishment for a decade of cheating!!!!!!

How amazing would it be if 25,000 Rangers fans marched down to Hampden only to be told by the polis around the ground "if you've no got a match ticket, yer nae gettin' through pal."

Be even better if they do it on the wrong weekend.

It is to do with the non payment of Tax and NI contributions according to Duff and Phelps.

I am quite sure the punishment will be vastly reduced on appeal BUT that is not the point here. This will make Rangers less appealing as an investment to any consortium. Like the SPL rule changes mid season it has been deliberately timed to inflict as much damage as possible on the club. Hopeful;ly this will unite the Rangers support as never before because never before has their support been needed more.

I don't consider myself a radical by any stretch of the imagination but this is too much. I will wait and see what those at the club have to say but i think the time has come when we need strong leadership. No right thinking person can honestly say the punishment fits the crime here.

When do you want them to punish you? 25 years after the event?

KYLE LAFFERTY has played his last game for Rangers.

SunSport can reveal a bitter bust-up with Rangers boss Ally McCoist saw the crocked striker suspended last night.

Lafferty has been ordered to stay away from Murray Park and Ibrox for two weeks, and banned from attending the final two home games of the season against Dundee United and Motherwell.

It’s believed the £3.25million hitman, who has a year left on his contract, never wants to play for McCoist again.

The explosive fall-out follows the 24-year-old star’s failure to meet up with the squad last Friday for the trip to Edinburgh and an overnight stay ahead of the 3-0 win over Hearts at Tynecastle.

Livid McCoist summoned Lafferty — who’s currently sidelined by a hernia problem needing surgery — to his office and bluntly ordered him to keep away from Ibrox.

Yet, a source close to the player last night claimed the Gers boss had asked Lafferty to make himself available for action as a sub against the Jambos despite him being clearly unfit.

Lafferty, who played a major role in the last two Rangers’ title triumphs with vital goals, was not willing to take that risk.

The Ulsterman has already made three sub appearances while not 100 per cent fit.

The same source also alleged that McCoist had CANCELLED two planned operations for the Northern Ireland ace, including one pencilled in for Manchester today.

It’s believed Lafferty was scheduled to head south last night to the same private hospital as Gers captain Steven Davis, who WILL get surgery for a similar injury which has ended his season.

Instead, Lafferty has been forced to remain at home and ponder his future.

The ex-Burnley frontman last month joined other top stars, including Allan McGregor, skipper Davis and Steven Naismith, in agreeing a desperate request from Rangers’ administrators to take a 75 per cent wage cut.

SunSport revealed this month that Lafferty, signed in June 2008, had also insisted that in return for slashing his wages he would be available for a potential summer transfer at a cut-price £500,000.

His career at Rangers has been littered with controversy, but he had become a key player under ex-boss Walter Smith and then McCoist.

But now it seems certain he has played his last game for Gers and will get that move away from his boyhood heroes.

      How the f**k can anything have made Rangers a less appealing investment?

As for the timing - the potential buyers have been asking for certainty regarding the punishment to allow them to have a better understanding of what they are buying into. The SFA have timed this to help Ranger - not to hinder them.

@GrahamSpiers: What a kicking Rangers are taking. Tonight the SFA, next the SPL, next HMRC. Was haughty arrogance ever brought down like this? #disrepute

Well if anyone should know all about haughty arrogance its Graham Spiers.

All of them feel they should be punished, but that the punishment should be 'fair'.

A £3.50 fine it is then.

It's only recently that 'newco' has taken on this connotation of being a continuation, though. In months prior it meant just that - a new company. It may "spiritually" inherit the club's honours (as was the case with AFC Wimbledon, until they were able to make it official a couple of years back) but it is a new entity, and thus wouldn't be subject to anything at all.

Like I say, I'm extremely skeptical of this punishment. I think that ultimately none of it will take effect except the ban on Whyte which, as the man himself says, doesn't really matter at all.

The argument in favour of the Newco getting a place in the SPL has always been that they would simply transfer the old club's membership to the new club. If that membership comes together with the associated punishments, then they will also have to inherit both.

If they start up a completely new AFC Wimbledon style club (I know that's not why you brought them up), then that would be a different case, because they would be applying for a vacancy rather than transferring the old share across.

Regarding that Lafferty story... the Daily Record think Rangers will get £500k for a player who is:

1) injured

2) out of contract in one season

3) isn't going to be a member of the first-team squad next season?

I guess the market in England is that inflated that it's possible but surely in the realm of sanity someone would just offer to pay off his contract (which, given the 75% reduction, is naff all) and forget the transfer fee? For Rangers players it must be a buyers' market, so why would a club spend half a mil that they don't have to?
