Ex Machina
Best F[emoji768]iends (Cinema) Tommy Wiseau and Greg Sestero star in their first film together since The Room. An absolute clusterfuck of a film but it might be one of the greatest things I've ever seen. Lots of throwbacks to The Room and Easter Eggs. It'll leave you in tears of laughter. Also got to have a meet and greet and Q&A with Tommy and Greg beforehand, Tommy is some boi. 10/10

tongue_tied_danny
JFK First time I've seen this. Very well made and well acted though I'm not sure how accurate it was. I personally don't believe the conspiracy theories but I found it very interesting. It lasts for more than three hours but held my attention all the way through. 9/10
MSU
Winchester -- What Helen Mirren is doing starring in this heap of dog's eggs is anyone's guess. Written and made by people who haven't the first clue on how to build atmosphere or suspense or foreboding and so instead they rely on cheap jump-scares every five minutes. The Winchester Mansion is an interesting enough building with interesting enough history. It really deserves something better than this. 2/10

(cinema) Thought this looked shite, hence why I held off seeing it for so long, but after hearing so many people rave about it, I went to see it last night. Loved it. Hugh Jackman is fantastic, and the soundtrack is immense. Wouldn't be surprised if this gets adapted for the stage soon (if it hasn't already). Seen this film yesterday at the cinema, not a fan of musical films but it’s a great film. The soundtrack is fantastic, some good songs on there. Not surprised to see some of the songs currently in the charts.

Christophe
(28) Loveless 9/10 Fairly depress Russian film about a kid who goes missing as his divorcing parents couldn’t give a shit about him. A little heavy handed on a couple of things but just really good. (cinema) -
MSU
A Ghost Story -- I fully get why some people hated this. It's slow, laborious, chronically melancholic, and it's Casey Affleck under a bed sheet ... but I utterly loved it. I watched it last night and I can't stop thinking about it. I'm not sure I've seen many movies that deal with love and loss and moving on and the temporary nature of everything as beautifully as this does. The emotion in that five-minute scene where Rooney Mara sat on the floor and ate a pie while the ghost silently watches on was incredible. A mark off for the lengthy existential monologue at the party near the end. 9/10

Christophe
(29) Black Panther 6/10 I feel duty bound to watch the vanguard films of our moment and probably this is the one for 2018 so despite my antipathy to the Marvel universe and and superheroes and all that shit in general I, your loyal serf, stumped up the money and went to the first screening of this. Errr, it’s not bad actually! I do believe we’re all essentially the same people regardless of race but it was actually nice not to have some loathsome big chinned Yankee jock or some slimy British theee-ayy-tarrr dork hamming it up in a big picture. So that’s a plus point. And it was a reasonably stylish film with nods to Hamlet (uncles, cousins, deaths, murder, etc), Throne Of Blood (warring tribes, soldiers), Game Of Thrones (just watch), recent Star Wars (aerial combat, too much happening in the conclusion), Bond (there’s a Q, plus the casino scene is very Skyfall) and The Lion King (a positive, if homogenous, Africa) Shit and I just read the main bad guy is Wallace from The Wire, he’s grown up to be pretty sexy! Makes sense - this is directed by the guy who did Fruitvale Station, that had him in the lead, right, right, all coming together. Politically, while on the surface it’s a positive and powerful representation of black people in modern cinema, I think there are debatable undercurrents that seem to suggest that centrism is the way forward, that hereditary power is real power, and a bunch of other stuff that I won’t go into. The ending is utterly predictable and a little bit trite but there are good bits along the way. (cinema) -
pittsburgh phil
Watched Pale Rider the other night (ITV4 I think?)Good western with a supernatural element, and as usual Clint Eastwood did his thing as the deadly preacher who appears after a ruthless fat tycoon type turns up with his family and some US Marshalls on his payroll. There was a bit of a fruity scene where a 14 y/o girl begs him to take her virginity (he declined), and also a young (and slim!) Chris Penn. Who tries to rape the girl. Anyway, well worth a watch if you haven't seen it.7/10.
ilostmyself
Black Panther (Cinema)Really enjoyed this, definitely a cut above the standard superhero films even if it does follow some of the same predictable structures.I thought they did a great job of creating the world of Wakanda and the characters around Black Panther. Decent baddie too.7.5/10
DA Baracus
Room (Film 4) Wow. Astonishing stuff. Can't remember the last time I was so engaged with a film. Can't believe it's taken me so long to see it! 9/10
Ira Gaines
Black Panther was alright. Really enjoyed the first half of it but I gave less and less of a shit as the movie went on after that. Would probably go 6/10.

RandomGuy.
Get out Pretty underwhelming, tbh. Read rakes of great reviews for it but had guessed the plot as soon as you see the maid, and there wasn't a single twist you don't see coming. Standard thoughtless horror that relies entirely on racial undertones to explain an absolutely dreadful plot. Superb acting by the lead is the only reason it's watchable at all.
