Casino (1995)

Used to prefer Goodfellas out of the two movies, but have grown a more appreciation for Casino over the years.

Pesci made a decent Nicky Santoro/Tony Spilotro.

"Yeah Nicky's methods of betting weren't scientific, but they worked.

When he won, he collected. When he lost, he told the bookies to go f*ck themselves. I mean, what were they going to do, muscle Nicky ? Nicky was the muscle. - Ace Rothstein"

Nicky destroying the guy with the fountain pen is one of the great movie murder scenes

Predator (1987)
An outstanding film which goes underrated in my opinion. Goes from an absolute belter of an 80s balls out action film with some of the best (albeit cheesy) one liners to a horror survival almost seamlessly.
I love the cast in this. Arnie, Carl Weathers, Bill Duke and Jesse Ventura work surprisingly well in the jungle considering youd struggle to get a helicopter to lift off with them in it.
Also The Predator is still hands down one of the best looking ugly mother fuckers you'll see. And the film, to its credit, dosent drip feed you exposition about exactly why it's there or where it's from etc. All you really get to know is if it bleeds, we can kill it.

Something you can be guaranteed to stick on and be entertained by. I'd give it 10  but its inspired so many awful sequels (especially the most recent one by Shane Black) that promised so much I'm knocking a point off for the false hope.
9/10
Probably my favourite action film. I can quote large parts of it.
Turn around turn around over here over here anytime anytime Haha hahaha

Predator 2 is decent as well, bit underrated.

HillsHave Eyes II is a bafflingly terrible film, in case you decide to watch that too.
in honour of your film choice, I decided to watch the Last House on the Left remake again tonight. Very watered down version of the original, but competent enough. BigFatTabbyBoy did not get to join me for this one!
Just watched Hills have Eyes original version. I actually think it holds up well. Better acting than in some much bigger budget horrors.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre next on my oldies list then Assualt on Precinct 13 but not tonight

Watched The Kings Speech tonight and found it both a very inter and enjoyable watch.

The speech therapist eventually chosen certainly had an interesting way of coaching George VI who also had a rather short temper on him.

Predator 2 is pish. It runs away from an aged Danny Glover!

The first is indeed brilliant though.

Shane Black plays the first character to be killed by the Predator.  The helicopter pilot at the end is played by Kevin Peter Hall.  He also plays the title role.

Blackway

Ray Liotta, Anthony Hopkins, Julia Stiles & Hal Holbrook all in it yet it still manages to be the dullest revenge story ever. Basically the plot is Ray Liotta is a feared hardman in a small town that even the Sheriff won't deal with. He harasses Julia Stile's character, she goes to Anthony Hopkins for help who then spends the day looking for him and then kills him. The end. That's it. Bad guy does bad guy stuff then gets killed by an old man. No tension, no drama, nothing.

There's many good revenge tales that are easy watching and provide some entertainment, this doesn't. So much potential with the actors involved and the plot from the book wasted.

3/10

Please avoid Ray Liotta's recent films to avoid gross disappointment.

El Camino after watching tje rest of Breaking Bad over the last couple of weeks.

Just seemed like a longer episode but tied up some loose ends and I enjoyed it as an epilogue to the series. 7.5/10.

Annihilation

7/10

This is on Netflix. A weird sci-fi film that explores some pretty deep and troubling themes. There's a section in a lighthouse that is rather mental and far more unsettling and terror inducing that almost any horror film. Any silly jump scare film or daft imagery can provoke a fright, but unsettling sci-fi has always been infinitely more terrifying to me. Under The Skin is probably the most terrifying film I've seen, and is a good example. I've seen plenty of horror movies and none have been so deeply affecting as it. None of them invoke such a strong feeling of unease and a feeling beyond the pit of your stomach, like it's in your very bones. Instead of the immediate spike of adrenaline like you'd get with a jump scare this sort of thing seeps it in to you, like a drip, but it's like it's wrong and dark.

So yeah, there's a sequence in Annihilation that is similar.

But good film. Worth a watch.

I went back and rewatched this one not long ago and found it even better on second watch. Made mistake watching it a bit baked and the bear scene was really fucking unsettling. Soundtrack for it is class.

Death Of Stalin

This is meant to be a comedy? Utter garbage from start to finish. 1/10 for Paddy Considine. Worst film i've subjected myself to for years!!

ETA..........Not sure if it's Michael Palin influence but some scenes are ripped off from Life Of Brian.

One of the greatest Buscemi performances ever...brilliant film

Lincoln (2012)

7/10

Do like a good historical biopic but feel so much more could have been done with this. Fizzled out towards the end. Day-Lewis was superb though.

Got halfway through this on an overnight flight back from Toronto. Had a lot going for it but sleep was more appealing at that time. Will need to give it another go during the day!
