Shandon Par
Dune. On a massive screen and sound system that rattled my intestines. Loved it. Could sit in a cinema all day watching Villeneuve’s films. Only let down was that I couldn’t get a cup of tea as the Costa was shut.

Only let down was that I couldn’t get a cup of tea as the Costa was shut.I think part of the reason I wasn't keen on Dune was that there was a horrible hissing noise coming from one side so I spent the first chunk trying to position one of my earphones so that it blocked the noise out without blocking all sound to that ear. Then I obviously had an earphone in so wasn't totally immersed. It was a real trial tbh.
accies1874
I saw Last Night in Soho and absolutely loved it. Thought the whole thing unfolded really cleverly in a hella exciting and brutal (physically and psychologically) way. It tries to tell a story of three timely themes - mental health issues, sexual assault and nostalgia - and does the latter two really well but the first maybe not so much. It's a fine depiction but felt more of a plot device than anything else. I suppose if you take it out and add more fantasy elements then you've got something a bit more generic so you're as well keeping it in but it was imo the weakest parts of the film. I thought its ability to portray nostalgia and perspectives was wonderful though. A welcome voice both irl and in the modern cinema.

Can't say I'd argue with that. Two other Craig films in the top 5 too. https://screenrant.com/james-bond-best-movies-imdb-casino-royale-goldfinger/ Delving into Bond's past and him being emotionally tied to the story, and the films not just being about guns, gadgets and girls made them better, Licence to Kill was tremendous and imo still holds up to this day whereas both connery and moores ones, while watchable, are tough to pick first given the repetitiveness of them all,
coprolite
Eternals- some immortal superheroes from space in CGI action. Was ok. The action scenes were disappointing but the CGI was pretty good for recreating historical locations, which were the best bits imo. Even by MCU standards the plot was a bit silly and the characters really 2d, probably because there were too many. Some of the comic relief was good though and i think that saved it from being a DC style turkey. 6/10 - just.

NotThePars
Suspiria (1977) dir. Dario Argento Good stuff. Appreciate the heightened and intense colours to create a fucked fairytale quality to everything. Everything feels so uncomfortable from the opening minute. I've seen criticisms of the plot but I've no real issue with sacrificing a plot for vibes even if the ending is pretty so-so.
Paul Kersey
Risky Business There was f**k all on TV last night so I blindly reached into my DVD cupboard and pulled out this classic 80s teen comedy. A fresh faced Tom Cruise plays a high school kid who rattles a gas cooker and then finds himself on a pretty steep learning curve when he falls foul of her psycho pimp. A very entertaining film. A good blend of humour and drama. The Tangerine Dream soundtrack adds to the atmosphere. Oh, and Rebbeca De Mornay is smoking hot as the escort/love interest. 8/10

Dario Argento's entire career can basically be summed up as sacrificing plot for vibes! The ending of Suspiria is one of the few films that actually put the shits up me a little. Very much recommended. I appreciated what they were trying to do with the remake, but it didn't hit the target for me. I think my favourite of his films is probably Phenomena. Argento's career is also responsible for me feeling like I'm about to murder someone whenever I put on a pair of gloves.

Really enjoying seeing classic films on the big screen at the moment. Jaws was my favourite film as a wee boy, and the same goes for my son, so a good time was had by all. What I didn't expect was how involving it was, despite having seen it literally dozens of times in the house, and I was so wrapped up in the story that I'd forgotten about Quint's fate until it was actually happening, and it was every bit as unpleasant as the first time round. It really can't be overstated quite how good that film is; an absolute masterpiece of tension. There's just no comparison between watching these films at home or in the cinema, by the way. This is teh best thing I've seen all day.
Comrie
Revenge of Billy the Kid A more wholesome film than you'd expect about bestiality and the half human spawn going on a rampage but christ those accents grate. 5.5/10 Edited November 10, 2021 by Comrie

NotThePars
Censor (2021) dir. Prano Bailey-Bond Niamh Algar plays a woman who works for the censors at the BBFC reviewing all the video nasties that comes through but she also has childhood trauma from her sister going missing without much recollection of why that happened. Obvs she one day comes in to find a video appearing to shed light on what happened. Every movie has to be about mental illness these days but this is maybe one of the better horror movies that is unsubtly about being no well. The acting is generally good, it portrays with devastating accuracy the misery that comes with living in Britain (and Thatcher's Britain must've been the nadir of this awful country) with the same colour palette that's splashed across Children of Men, and the soundtrack is suitably moody (Blanck Mass feature). It plods along a little bit at points but I thought the ending was pretty good albeit it's much better for being sub-90 minutes. Make more movies finish in under 90, imo. Anyway, it's alright. Would recommend if you're bored one afternoon.
accies1874
I really wanted to see Censor in the cinema but sadly missed the boat. I still check every so often to see if it's got a special screening somewhere.
Scotty Tunbridge
King Richard - 8/10. Biopic where Will Smith plays Richard Williams father/coach of the Williams sisters. I really enjoyed this Smith’s performance was excellent and you can see why he’s odds on for the Best actor Oscar at the moment, at the end it shows you some clips of the real life people and similarities are striking. The movie itself only goes as far as Venus playing in her first real tennis tournament rather than going through their full careers but there is enough story within that. Jon Bernthal is also fantastic when he enters in the films second half.
Twinkle
No Time To Die 7/10 Didnt have the feel of a Bond film which isnt a criticism and went on a bit too long as well however i enjoyed it. Not quite sure how they are going to shape this going forward though given the latter stages of the film
