Mr. Brightside
Drive - Third viewing, I simply fucking love this film. It keeps you gripped throughout despite the start being quite slow-paced (which I like) 10/10 Oh and the soundtrack is outstanding. I've seen him in Drive and The Ides of March recently and I think he's quite an average actor. That just makes those two films even better despite that hindrance. edit: should say I mean the films deserve more credit for being amazing despite the hindrance. Watched Dracula (1992) as well tonight. Quite a good film. Oldman is pretty stellar in it. Keanu Reeves is confirmed for being awful though. Winona Ryder and Anthony Hopkins are great as well. The only thing I think wasn't great was the timeframe. Was it set over a number of years or something because Keanu Reeves' hair goes steadily grayer as it progresses and I didn't get the feeling it was a long period of time. Decent enough time filler though A solid but not masterful 7/10. Edited April 7, 2012 by forehead7
K.T
Just finished watching Kingpin on Film4, I forgot how great this film is since it's been a few years since I must've last seen it. Harrelson and Murray are fantastic in it. So many times was I buckling over in laughter. Especially when they escape with Claudia and Roy says to Claudia that she needs to be calm like Ishmael and the camera pans to him and his face is stuck in a mix between and . Really solid comedy. 8/10 What about When he saws the horse's feet off? There were tears!
Tamdunk
Lethal weapon 2 7/10 I love the soft porn soundtrack you get in lethal weapon movies, you're just watchin a normal scene and theres an outburst of sleazy saxophone to punctuate a statement or action, quality. The 2nd movie has some dodgy south aftican nazis/government minister tryin on some drug deal and lookin for Joe pesci, the scamming money launderer who is gonna be a witness against them. Mel Gibson and Danny glover are assigned to protect the witness, but their 'against the book' style of policing isn't much help and gets him in much more danger. Basically the lethal weapon movies are the cornerstone of the American cop action movie. Good stunts, chases, shootouts, elements if a buddy movie. Trouble is I can't tray take Mel Gibson seriously after his drunken, wife beating, threatenting, anti-semitic antics. And by how he's portrayed in south park. If you can overlook that then its a decent good fun movie. It has the whole apartheid thing going on, but for me, its too heavy an issue for the movie, much like the suicide aspect of the first one. It doesn't really fit, other than the fact that they are a black and white cop partnership. Eta. Come to think of it, Mel Gibson was calling people Nazi's the whole way through it. DomDom
Do you not feel that Gosling is a bit wooden? I'll give my opinion on this and say no. Brilliant actor.
SodjesSixteenIncher
Do you not feel that Gosling is a bit wooden? I've seen him in Drive and The Ides of March recently and I think he's quite an average actor. That just makes those two films even better despite that hindrance. I see what you're saying but in both those cases Isn't that kind of the point? In IOM his character becomes cynical and hardened by the political process and starts forgoing his human instincts. I think he's deliberately 'wooden' because that's what the character becomes. In Drive, he's almost non-human in his quietness and non reactionary personality. This asks you questions about who he is and you find out when he turns out to be an inhumanely violent killing machine. Both would be a bit weird if he was a chirpy, charasmatic 'movie star'. Infact I'd say it takes a fair bit of talent to play it just as wooden as he did in Drive. Reminded me of Williams in One Hour Photo in that he's so wooden it becomes enigmatic and creepy. Cracking actor IMO.
Bert Raccoon
Have to agree about Gosling in Drive, I thought it was a fantastic performance.

19QOS19
American Beauty 6/10 First time. Wanted to see it for a while and thought it was going to be amazing after all the hype I'd read from the reviews. In the end I thought it was pretty meh really. Basically a guy having a mid-life crisis and becomes infatuated with a young girl. Spacey plays the role really well though which boosts the scoring, other than that I won't be rushing out to buy it any time soon.
Mr. Brightside
Re: the Ryan Gosling debate, I've only seen him in Remember The Titans and Drive and he is totally different in both so that shows to me some acting range, Also I think he player the Driver brilliantly TBH, I think his social awkwardness is superb and played well, and so is his ruthless side, great performance.
Bert Raccoon
High Fidelity Decent film and John Cusac is excellent in the main role. Negative points would be that I much preferd the book, the fact Jack Black is in it basically playing himself as usual definately loses it points. Definately worth a watch though. 7/10
StewartyMac
Watched THOR the other night. I'm a big Marvel fan having had tons of the comics when I was a wean, so I'm always keen to see a film adaptation. This one, like so many others however, was utter pish. I just couldn't get my head round the Norse God of Thunder being portrayed by someone who was in Home & Away. Asgard was portrayed all wrong as well, just a disaster of a film from start to finish. 1/10
forehead7
Asgard was portrayed all wrong as well, just a disaster of a film from start to finish. I thought Asgard looked phenomenal. It looked regal but also had the magical aspect that it obviously has in the comics.

SaltyTON
Midgets Vs. Mascots (2009) Five midgets (including Gary Coleman) take on five mascots in 30 challenges to win $1m each. Utterly hilarious, and great for beginning to end. Would give it my usual spoof/farce mark, but it deserves a bonus point for just being genius! 8/10

Par-NO1
Bridesmaids - Watched it last night and thought it was mostly pish, a few laughs. But definatly didn't live up to the 'female Hangover' tag. 3/10

SaltyTON
You have a specific mark for spoofs? Seriously? A maximum, yes. For example, Postal should be a 10/10; but that would be ridiculous in terms of every other film, ever...
