August:Osage County 7.5/10

If you think your family is dysfunctional, go and see this and thank god they aren't as bad as this one! Some funny moments - not something I would normally go and see but quite enjoyable. Ewan McGregor is still terrible at an American accent though. I just don't like Juliette Lewis either.

I thought Julia Roberts was the best in this film, Streep has got the Oscar nod though.

Both are nominated.

My qualm about this film is its length. Does it all take place in real time over the course of 130 minutes?

Thought I recognised her, and lo and behold, she used to be in fucking Neighbours.

But yes, a divine woman.

I fancied her rotten when she was on neighbours so you can imagine my delight when I saw this film!!

Saw this tonight. I'd probably go the whole hog and give it 8/10. Not a happy-go-lucky type of film but incredibly watchable.

Wolf of Wall Street was a decent enough watch, but a long way off Marty's best - Di Caprio did a cracking job, but it was hard to feel sympathy for anyone in the movie, really. Still a solid 7/10.

Sunshine on Leith : A change of pace from my normal viewing, I thought I'd have a look as it seems to have divided opinion somewhat. Well, I really enjoyed it! Mullen was nicely restrained and Jane Horrocks can do very little wrong for me. Yes, the accusations of "Mama McMia" do have some foundation, but the songs felt more part of the story in this one, and it all came together to make for an enjoyable watch. Loved the finale, too. 8/10

Filth : I'd been looking forward to this, after reading so many positive posts on here.I have to admit to feeling a bit let down - too much "trainspotting" hommage going on for the film to really have is own identity. Saying that, I've always seen Irvine Welsh as a bit of a limited writer, so perhaps that shouldn't have come as too much of a shock. James McEvoy, though, was absolutely fûcking brilliant - the best performance I've seen from him by far. I'll give it 8/10, but 2 of those are for McEvoy, and another one for the last ten minutes.

Not a film, but i've just watched 'boys from the blackstuff' over the last 2 nights, abosutley fantastic, i hadn't seen it since it was originally on in the 80's and the only thing i really remembered was the yosser stuff.

So glad i got the DVD and watched it again, i'd recommend it to the youngsters on here.

WOWS: Was anticipating a Goodfellas level classic, was more around the Casino level. Di Caprio and Hill were superb but overall I wasn't a massive fan. Hard to work out if it's a very well written satire of that whole industry or whether we're supposed to agree with the characters that throwing midgets is totally hilarious.

7/10

Spring Breakers: Genuinely one of the worst films I've seen in years. Half the film was basically the same sequences of the birds riding about on scooters or standing on the beach. The script must been about 3 pages long.

2/10

Watership Down. After just reading the book I was looking forward to it. Not many changes but obviously missed things out and the order was different. I was told that it was a real tearjerker at the end, and it really wasn't. Neither was the book tbh. I quite liked it though; first time I've read a book before watching the film.

The Butler. Was pretty good and surprised at how competent Oprah was at acting. Decent enough but it was a bit long and really quite rushed at the end.

12 years a slave.........9/10.

Wow.........powerful stuff.

Saw this on Friday night. Not much more you can say. I was talking to someone who'd said they didn't like the way it "just ended", but I don't see how it could've been done any differently.

Out of the Furnace. I was a bit disappointed with this if I'm honest. I expected fireworks, but it was more understated than I anticipated. Bale and Affleck were both excellent as were the supports, but I was a touch disappointed with Harrelson if I'm honest.

6/10.

Inside Llewyn Davis - A bit offbeat, not much in the way of plot, but I really enjoyed it. 7/10.

I would rate it at a 9/10. I saw it last week. Old man Enigma was probably in the 7/10 area but I really enjoyed it, struck a chord with me... I loved the ending too. There were some great laughs in it as well.

Wolf of Wall Street - 9/10.

Brilliant film, Excellent from start to finish. It was 3 hours long but didnt feel like that at all. Di Caprio is excellent as per and I really dont know what he needs to do to win an oscar but I've a feeling that he wont win again this year. The both times he's been nominated for Best Actor he's lost to black guys and he's up against Chiwetel Eijofor this year and although I thought Di Caprio gave the better performance in my book I think 12 Years A Slave will clear up this year. Jonah Hill was amazing in this film I thought to, he dived right into the character and really brought him to life but I think he'll lose to Michael Fassbender because he was mesmerising in 12 Years A Slave.
