Quitongo's Left Peg
Just finished 'The Miracle of Castel Di Sangro'. An excellent read, even if the author is a bit of a self-indulgent twat that tries to railroad an already amazing story to involve himself at every turn.
pccabe
The Black Russian by Vladimir Alexandrov. A very interesting book about an American who took up Russian citizenship in pre-Communism Russia.

jmothecat
Sunset Song by Lewis Grassic Gibbon It's a bit morbid That's probably my favourite book I've ever read. The characters somehow just feel so real, it's as if you get to know them. the part when Ewan dies is the single most emotional I've felt when reading a book, I actually had to put the book down to let it sink in.
Savage Henry
Just starting on The Narrow Road To The Deep North by Richard Flanagan. It's the story of a prisoner of war in a Japanese concentration camp, who is sent to work on the Burma railroad. Pretty heavy duty stuff, I suspect. We'll see how it goes.

Thought it was tremendously well written and really enjoyed it.
mjw
Living the Dream (Khaosan Road - Thailand Book 1) Chris Johnson. Guy sells all his possessions and goes travelling. Unfortunately he is the dullest person who ever lived and we get stories about eating Pad Thai and looking at temples.

RondeBoer
Reading Irvine Welsh's 'Porno' again on the back of the news that the film has got the green light. Been reading that the script for the film is only loosely based on Welsh's book which is a shame because the book is even better than Trainspotting for me. Can't remember being in tears of laughter reading a book before but that one does it.

Don't really see the point of the film if it's not based on the book, I thought the book was hilarious too and it will take some effort to come up with anything better imo. Just finished Trigger Mortis by Anthony Horowitz. A decent addition to the James Bond books and it would fit into the original series as a sequel to Goldfinger.
Ross.
I thought Porno was shite. The only decent laugh was the scene about Sick Boy sending Begbie gay porn in jail. The rest of it read as though Welsh had been told by his publisher that he had to get the Trainspotting lot back in the same book. the gay porn bit aside, the only redeeming factor was Juice Terry. Anyway, I've literally just finished reading "A Brief History of Seven Killings". It wasn't brief and there were far more than seven killings. Was difficult in patches due to the huge number of characters, as well as the Jamaican dialect, but well worth the effort and easy to see why it won the Booker prize. Would definitely recommend it.

jmothecat
Just finished 'I Married a Communist' by Philip Roth. Very much enjoyed it, seems to be one of those Roth novels that isn't revered as much as his others, but I thought it was fantastic.
