The Last of Us

Finished this an hour or so ago after revisiting after a few months.

Straight in to my top 5 and I still have LeftBehind to play.

One of my favourite parts was stalking the deer.

Swore quite a bit at the man stalking me in the restaurant with the machete too.

Also, did everyone else execute the surgeons when Ellie was about to be operated on?

Spoiler alert, in response to Andy's post. But in all honesty if anyone is in here and hasn't completed the game at this stage then you deserve to see spoilers :P

Yeah I'm pretty sure I would have wiped out the surgeon at the end. Did you have the choice not to? My memory is sketchy.

I enjoyed stalking the deer but I was more happy to be playing as Ellie. From my memory the creators had made it clear that you would only play as Joel in the game and as a result it made playing as Ellie a nice surprise :) Anybody else feel worse when dying as Ellie? I felt more protective when playing as her

That restaurant was indeed a b*****d!

One of the surgeons was cowering in the corner.

She got shot in the head like her two colleagues before her. On reflection though, I probably could have just left her and picked up Ellie from there.

Yip I got rid of the surgeons but by that point I was just on a rampage after dying many times trying to get to her. I was also strangely protective of Ellie at times. There were times that I couldn't see her and had to do Joel's listening ability in case I lost her

Just fancied responding to the few posts above ..

On my first play-through, I drew my gun on the surgeon and aimed at him, which made him put his hands up and back away, and I was so focussed on getting Ellie back I just moved as quickly as I could and picked her up.

I think the story-telling in this game is really what sets it apart - it's easily my favourite game - and establishing a relationship between Joel and Ellie is such a big part of the whole thing.

As above, I also found myself using the listening mode just to double-check where Ellie was during a level.

Also, on the final level, while I had normally approached each bit by being slow and trying to work around the enemies, I just went straight-ahead in the hospital ward, with the enemies, because of Ellie being in danger and trying to get her back asap. I completely change my style of play, from being stealthy and slow, to full-ahead.

And then, I mind on my first playthrough, I had got to the final corridor and was rushing round like a daftie trying to find the room she was in.

Great game, can't see it being topped soon.

I shot the guy in the foot and left the other two alone. Going by other people's reactions, most folk went all Patrick Bateman.

(Not that it makes any difference, he still dies of sore foot).

Just about to start this. How long should I put my family's life on hold till it's finished?

If you're a gamer similar to me (someone who takes their time, checking each and every area for supplies. Also someone who is slow and cautious when going into new environments and someone who will take time to strategise their attacks) then you're looking at breaking the 20 hour mark with ease. I never actually timed myself whenever I played through it but it felt like far longer than 20 hours anyway. I've never wanted a game not to end more than I didn't want this game to end (if that makes sense!) yet when it did eventually finish I felt completely satisfied. Such a weird feeling.

The game encourages you to scavenge as weapons and medicine is few and far between even on easier settings, so a good chunk of your time is spent doing this. But it was another satisfying part to the game for me. Desperately needing a bit of rag and eventually finding it in a wee drawer gave me just as much satisfaction as killing a clicker. I'm maybe in a minority on that front or maybe many others are in the same boat such is the quality of the game.

If you're a speed runner then I imagine the game will take far less time though I can't imagine you would be able to bypass the Clickers by running. If you stand on a bit of glass 40 feet away those fuckers somehow hear you and rip your face off :(

I refuse to believe a gamer dislikes this game and I imagine you'll have a lot of fun playing it; the lack of socialising with your family will be totally worth it! And tbh, you'll feel like you have a daughter by the end of the game anyway. You'll know what I mean once you've completed the game/played a few hours of it!

Enjoy the masterpiece :)

With regards to the length of the game, I'd say 18 hours or so. However I've replayed the game a few times as it is that good.

The most difficult setting (is it grounded?) is a good playthrough and changes the game. Supplies are so scarce that you almost have to stealth some areas.

The health bar is gone so using health packs is a guessing game and the checkpoints are in much fewer numbers.

My favourite game ever

Just started playing it and whilst it's taking a bit of getting used to, it's a fantastic game.

Aye I found this as well. Up until an hour in I wasn't all that keen on the controls and wondered if I could stomach them for the whole game. Thankfully after an hour or so the controls were second nature to me and I got right into the game.

The conformation of The Last of Us 2 is mouthwatering news to say the least. I wonder how they'll go with it. A prequal doesn't greatly appeal to me as you would imagine it would be skipping from Ellie to Joel. The chemistry between those two is the best thing about the game for me, so for them to not be together would be pretty disappointing.

Just surviving wouldn't be too appealing either as it would surely get boring.

I can't help but think Ellie's immunity will be a big part of the plot yet again. I have faith in Naughty Dog nailing it once again though :)

As long as Naughty Dog use the same team that done TLOU and Drake's 2.

If it's the team that made Drake's 3 we're humped.
