Arbroath close season thread

are you insane, course you are, these pair are a last resort

If this is true, offer job to Petrie or the boy Ward just dumped by Albion Rovers

Mind Mbu at Cowden? Absolutely unreal, Clarkes better than the 3rd division and will sign for a team higher up the leagues anyway I bet.

Off topic a bit, but can anyone tell me how to cook smokies? Bought a couple of big ones from the fish van, and bunged them in the freezer. Not intending to eat them tonight, but any advice about defrosting, bone picking, cooking and serving would be appreciated.

I've had ones in Forfar before from the fish shop just not quite the same as the fresh ones so if we ever play yous get yourself down to the harbour and get some fresh ones they are absolutely delightful ;) bond picking you only need to tear the spine away, pull it out in one big swoop and then fire in, watch out though still some other wee bones ;) would imagine you would just let them sit? I never cook them just eat them fresh and cold.

I dunno about Petrie the more I think about it. I canna believe Sheerin is gone, shocked, right out of the blue!

Its a shame thats Sheerin has gone. At least he didnt dump us with only a couple of players signed. Tho we are lacking in the defensive areas, a new manager will have time to bring players in.

No one is going to forget his first season in charge. Guiding us finally to our first title.

Then almost clinching back to back promotions the next year only just falling short.

Tho the 3rd season was a mixed bag. Great cup runs to the semis in the challenge cup. And taking Celtic to a replay in the Scottish Cup where we were robbed by an incompetent referee. But failing to make the playoffs was a let down.

But last season was a disaster. Out of each cup at the first attempt and relegation from League 1. Was a really poor season. Sheerin was let down badly by a number of 'experienced' players who didnt bother showing up. It was obvious that he was upset by how the season went but he seemed determined to bounce back up.

But Aberdeen is a huge club compared to ours. He will be on more pay, working full time, better training equipment, higher standard of player, and the chance to help train some really talented youngsters. Lets hope he sends a few down to us on loan.

Goof Luck Mr Sheerin. I wish you all the best at your new club.

Arbroath gaffer Paul Sheerin sensationally quit the Lichties today.

The former Inverness, St Johnstone and Ayr United man is off to another former club, Aberdeen, as Under-20 coach.

Sheerin (39) was a popular figure at Gayfield, having secured the title in his first season as boss.

But after three seasons in the third tier of Scottish football, the Maroons were relegated last season.

Sheerin, who also played for Southampton and Alloa during his career, was at Pittodrie for two years.

Aberdeen chief executive Duncan Fraser said on the Dons website: Following a comprehensive process, Derek McInnes identified Paul as the person he wanted for this vital role.

Despite wishing to retain Pauls services, Arbroath chairman John Christison was good to deal with and completely appreciated Pauls desire to come back to Aberdeen.

Speaking to the Herald, Paul said: Its a good opportunity. Too good if Im totally honest.

Knowing Del [Derek McInnes] and Doc [Tony Docherty] and the way they go about things as well made the decision easier.

However, its with a heavy heart that I leave Arbroath. After the misdemeanour of going down last season, they could have dispensed with me, but the board stuck by me.

And I will never forget the fans either. They stuck by me too and the way they were after the Airdrie game at the end of last season will live with me forever.

Its a real regret that I am leaving without righting the wrong last season of relegation.

He confirmed it was a role with the under-20s, but another attraction was responsibility with the first team too. I will be working with the under-20s day in day out which will be great, but also to be involved with the first team on a Saturday was a real attraction too.
