@HibeeJibee

Pretty sure I heard Richard Gordon say earlier that no player had scored a hat trick in the Premiership this season.

Is that true, and has it ever happened before in the top division in Scotland?

I believe it is the case that there were no hat-tricks scored this season, and it is indeed the first season in Scottish top flight history that this has happened. The Scottish Premiership has averaged 6.6 per season since it started in 2013/14, and the SPL before it averaged 8.1 per season over 15 years, so it is a real statistical anomaly this year.

Cheers. I didn't doubt Gordon, just wasn't sure if I had heard him right.

It is quite a surprising statistic

In Friday's podcast previewing the St Johnstone/County matches, Cammy Bell seemed to think St Johnstone required a 4-0 win to overhaul Ross County had they drawn with Aberdeen.

Mixing up negative numbers with positive numbers. I did it for about 15 seconds when looking at the table after Wednesday's game, before I realised.

Sportsound has had a very bad season, it's fair to say.

The tone of the show is really poor, and the pursuit of controversy is actually damaging for those involved. You can tell that a few of the contributors simply now do not like each other, and I think it's clear that's a direct result of the confrontational nature of the show. I'd honestly hate to work in an environment like that.

Their coverage of the lower leagues is dreadful, and summed up by it not even really being noteworthy that they had nobody at the pyramid play-off and even finished their coverage yesterday before it was completed. That really is shocking.

Sadly, it seems we've basically lost it as a show. It's done. The best way I can sum it up is that I used to listen to Sportsound because I enjoyed it. Now when I listen to it it's because I have to, and for Hearts games I'm not going to, I now just use the vastly superior coverage on Hearts TV.

I would echo what you said about the pyramid play off, both legs looked like really exciting games but to not have anybody even occasionally reporting back with updates was truly dreadful.

I don't understand the point of putting it on TV too it just seems bizarre.

My issue with sport sound and indeed sport scene is that both these programmes should have more than just football although coverage should be extended down to the LL & HL (there used to be a Radio Scotland HL reporter), even a run down of scores from the top leagues of rugby, shinty, cricket etc. would be quite nice and wouldn't be too much of a chore with results being easily accessible via FB.

An improved sportsound structure may look like this.

16:45 -17:00 Match reports from all open all mic games. And full time Scores :Premiership to Highland/Lowland Leagues

17:00-17:30 Premiership Discussion

17:30-18:00 Championship Discussion

18:00-18:30 League 1 & 2 Discussion

18:30-19:00 Full time scores from other sports rugby, shinty, cricket etc. and discussion (maybe a different sport each week)

The above is definitely a bit pie in the sky but I think sport scene should be more than just Michael Stewart doesn't like Craig Levin which we seem to hear every bloody week.

They can't even be arsed reading the full scores from the football fixture card more than once (when folk at the games are still getting to their cars and buses), there is no way in hell they're going to give us cricket scores - even assuming Kenny would know enough about the game to be able to read out the Scoddish criggid zcore  if you gave it to him written down.

On the other hand, the decision review system with video replays and so on is well established in cricket, so at least they've have something to latch onto there.

A definite structure so that folk heading home know when they can hear ALL the scores (not just some selected ones and feel free to look at the website if you want anything we can't be arsed with). and proper discussion on the different leagues.

Only spiced up if they attach electrodes to the current clown crew that appear and they get zapped every time they veer off subject to either of THEM, I can almost smell the frying presenters from here.

Aye, like I say pie in the sky maybe what the show should be like but will definitely not be anytime soon.

Is anyone else just sick and fed up of Sportsound? Or is it just me? The 'pundits' are woeful, the post-match 'interviews' with managers are completely pointless, merely Chick Young and co chumming up to the managers and zero tactical insight is ever offered or even attempted to be gained.

Billy Dodds- Really is a pointless pundit... never says anything of worth and merely parrots what is already being said in the papers on a current issue.

Chick Young- If he is a 'journalist' he never does any research and also offers zero insight.

Richard Gordon- I know this view may not be universal but he really gets on my wick. I acknowledge he is far more competent than the rest as a broadcaster and constantly has to stop the others shouting over each other on live radio like a school teacher but I find him an odious p***k tbh.

Willie Miller- Just find him a pedantic tosser. Summed up at the weekend in that he had no clue about teams in the lower leagues (other than the Big 3). And the taxpayer subsidises this man to be a pundit on national radio?

Allan Preston- The biggest numpty of them all. How can a man who has only ever had one manager job (At Livingston where he got sacked after 14 games , only winning 1/2 losing the vast majority of the rest including a 7 game losing streak which got him sacked.) be a 'pundit' who broadcasts his supposed wisdom to the nation every week. It is not like he is even close to talking sense anytime soon Fail. Also his constant "chance" every 15 seconds on open all mics is quite a grate.

After the weekend, first games of a new season I lasted about ten mins on Saturday before becoming completely pissed off at being reminded as to how shite a programme it really is. Hence this post.

Apologies for the rant. Or do others agree that it is complete horseshi*t? This is the national taxpayer funded radio programme after all. When you listen to five live it is night and day. Although I appreciate there are plenty of idiots on there too and they probs have far bigger a budget due to English football/premiership etc but as an overall show it trumps Sportsound... surely we can produce better in Scotland?

One Thousand pages and ten years ago the above post started this thread - not much has changed except replacing Gordon with Kenny Mac - and the Mikey Stewart arguing with himself routine.
