StreetwiseHercules
From what I've heard both are going to stay orange surprisingly easily.Unlikely. There are blowhards up there for sure who will tell that to anyone who wants to listen but ordinary people particularly in Orkney are sick of the Lib Dems, Carmichael in particular. Both could fall, it's say it's 60/40 in favour of SNP in Orkney and 60/40 against in Shetland.

Carmichael isn't standing in this election and the standing Lib Dem MSPs are expected to receive an incumbency bounce. There is also some intel that Danus Skene may not be popular and Shetland and may have actually cost the SNP more votes than he won them last year. The word on the street is that both are going to stay Lib Dem, perhaps with fairly comfortable majorities.

StreetwiseHercules
Skene won Orkney last year BEFORE the Carmicharl affair came to light and it's not even him in Orkney this year. As for Tavish, hasnt his vote share been receding at each election? And McArthur the same? So why would they get an incumbency bonus now?

The Carmichael thing is completely irrelevant in the context of this election. Popular independents have done quite well in the past.

WaffenThinMint
People that vote Lib Dems don't give a shit about the whole Carmichael shindig People that vote Lib Dem don't give a shit about politics full stop - they want the self-satisfaction of knowing they always vote in elections like grown ups are supposed to do without having to worry about what they stand for. The Liberal Democrats are to politics what the Church of England is to religion, something for "nice" people who do all their food shopping in Marks & Spencers if there's not a Waitrose and who don't want to offend the neighbours, proffering platitudes as fuzzy as their comfy sweaters & little in the way of specifics. They are the decaff version of the Green Party.

Colkitto
It would be fantastic if the SNP could win either or both Orkney & Shetland. The Unionists always try and portray them as either British or wannabe Vikings, but not really Scottish. A SNP win would be a myth buster straight away

MONKMAN
There's not a chance the Tories will take both Dumfries seats, and I'd be very surprised if they took either.

The Holiday Song
I'm from Shetland, Scott will hold fairly easily. If the SNP had gotten a more popular candidate than Skene though...
