Not if you're on PAYE as the vast majority of the working population are, surely if you are a working adult you know that?

Paying into a pension for example can help but being taxed at salary source doesn't leave much room for tax relief.

Yes

PAYE is a great system.

Yes, I know what you mean.
Im just straightforward self- employed, no offshore trusts, etc.
However, it’s easy to talk about these things but harder to legislate. Labour and Conservative have tried but it’s not as easy as you make out and I wonder if it’s maybe overdone?

There has been no serious attempt to reform the tax code since the eighties.

Yep.

One of the biggest abuses was highlighted by the Rangers case where they were bypassing the PAYE system and paying their players by means of payments to offshore trusts and the players taking money back and calling them loans.

I don’t think this was just Rangers. I think other clubs were doing the same.

It took HMRC god knows how many appeals to win the case but thankfully, they won.

Just shows how rotten football is at the top level!

Scottish independence: Tories lose Holyrood vote on indyref2

MSPs have rejected a Tory motion calling for indyref2 to be scrapped.

Instead, an SNP amendment stating "there can be no justification whatsoever to deny people in Scotland their democratic rights" if there is a pro-independence majority after May's Holyrood election passed by 65 votes to 56.

How much of an increase in support for Indy will result from BJ's presidential style visit tomorrow?

I think most Scots will think it's a pretty inappropriate thing for the PM to do at this time. I wonder how many staff he's bringing up with him, from an area with very high levels of coronavirus.

With tragicomic inevitability, there's bound to be a Covid outbreak at one of the places he visits.

I've just been listening to Adam Fleming on BBC Breakfast outlining the message Johnson will bring. It's all about British this and British that, as if the Scottish electorate is mendicant supplicants who make no contribution to the British Exchequer. This really is desperate, juvenile stuff and rather than ignoring it, the Scottish Government should be vigorously debunking it.

Can't see it happening as the people he meets will probably be hand chosen but would love to see some give it to him with both barrels and tell him what an incompetent F*ckwit he is.  Pity he has not published his schedule.

Michael Gove on TV earlier saying how he's visiting test centres and the like.  I wonder if he'd be having an essential visit to these centres if polling showed a lead for No...
