So if we are taking about fantastic goal scorers who are not in form, why don't we just call up Denis Law?

One shot, one goal this season, 100% strike rate, get him in!!!

nah, statistical anomaly.

Here's another statistical anomaly.

Gary Hooper. who you said "Hooper wouldn't get in the Scotland squad, we have about six strikers better than him." Has scored every 179 minutes in the same league as Rhodes.

Rhodes needs 216 minutes to score.

Hooper also has 4 assists to Rhodes 1.

So who are the 6 strikers who are better than Hooper and therefore also Rhodes?

A bit tangential, but I saw a stat on SSNews this morning of the top Championship goalscorers since 2013:

1. Ross McCormack: 66

2. Jordan Rhodes: 61

3. Chris Martin: 55

Interesting that Scottish strikers dominate the Championship but we can't get one player making a serious dent in the EPL scorers chart. Steven Fletcher was the best of recent times, but his 10-12 goals for a few seasons running is pretty paltry.

Fletcher up front is a failure from a scoring point of view, his partnership with Naismith is a failure.  Stats from the last campaign (removing both Gibraltar games)

OG: 3

Maloney: 2

Anya: 1

McArthur: 1

Ritchie: 1

Fletcher: 1

Naismith: 1

So our strikers weighed in with 2 goals in 8 matches. It's not working.

Why isn't Strachan willing to give a Rhodes/McCormack or a Rhodes/Griffiths partnership a try? Why is Chris Martin being selected when he has shown absolutely zero in a Scotland shirt? we can't rely on own goals and Shaun Maloney.

However given our next two friendlies are against Italy and France I suspect more of the same that has gone before.

Even simpler, we need a striker that scores goals, a basic requirement of the game of football if you want to win.

Strachan has done well at brainwashing a certain section of the support and media that we need the striker to "hold the ball up", no we don't Goggsy, we need a striker(s) that can score goals, and play in a manner that creates chances for said striker(s) to put the ball in the net.

We currently fail on both counts, and it appears he wants more of the same by trying out the lumbering block of wood known as Chris Martin, who traps a ball further than he kicks it.

Strachan hasn't brainwashed anyone. It's the brain dead who think 'man score goal, play man mean we score goal' that are the fucking problem. Rhodes has bounced around the level he has as - that's his level. Scotland don't create millions of chances to have a passenger like Rhodes. We need to defend from the front and also need to, when we get out, be able to get support out alongside and hope to create from there. Pinging the ball to a short, lightweight will result in goals.

But not for Scotland.

Yeah OK, let's go on the way we are with a non scoring striker "holding the ball up" in the vein hope of some support, I'm sure that tactic which failed the last campaign will fire us to Russia 18, not.  We don't create millions of chances because we don't set ourselves up that way. Look at the clusterfuck that was Tbilisi, that was an embarrassment to fitba, it was little different in the home game at Ibrox where we won with a freak OG, whilst Strachan purred about a great performance. Lucky in Dublin with another huge deflection, and the home game at Parkhead we rode our luck until a piece of individual brilliance (not from one of our strikers) won the game.

Strachan has his game plan which he will not change, he has no plan B apart from throwing on Chris Martin (Germany) up front and lumping the ball to him for 10 minutes.  He appears unwilling to give other strikers a chance to establish themselves as for him they don't "fit the system". That will be the failed system.

You don't need to look far to understand the problem with Scottish fitba. We accept mediocrity and failed tactics because we have a wee gallus red headed manager in charge who's great at one liners.

Erm, we set up that way as if we set up any other way we'd be torn to fucking peices. Let's just leave absolutely shite centre halves exposed. Yeah, that'll work.

Well we're a bit stuck then aren't we, the system we have and players employed in it won't get us anywhere, and all other systems are shite as we'll be gubbed.

What was I saying about accepting mediocrity.............
