The Overpriced Mercenary Leagues Thread

CSL is bringing in a salary cap of 49k per week for each foreign player. Chinese national players capped at 21k per week. Total club spend also capped to stop bonus loops.

Bonus rules are apparently still flexible enough to pay extremely highly according to some top Chinese sources. So this will be another failed rule change by the CFA.

Meanwhile, Mario Mandzukic has joined Al-Duhail in Qatar.

Certainly something not at all suspicious going on between Juventus and Qatari club Al-Duhail (formerly two seperate outfits names Lekhwiya and El Jaish).

Mehdi Benatia and Mario Mandzukic were sold from Juventus in 2019.

In the current transfer window, Juventus signed Cagliari and North Korea striker Han Kwang-song for €3.5m and sold him the same day to Al-Duhail for €5m.

Sanctions meaning the deal couldn't be done directly maybe?

Reigning Chinese Super League champions Jiangsu FC - whose owners also own Inter Milan - announced on Sunday that the club would cease operations with immediate effect.

Just like that

There is an old joke in there. Wonder what the owners did to annoy the Chinese Government, would be amazed if Internazionale are able to pay this months wages given how quickly they turned on Jack Ma.

20 minutes?

sounds about right.

The fanzine When Saturday Comes used to have Private Eye type front covers.

One was of Ron Atkinson and Howard Kendall. The speech bubble coming out of Ron's mouth said "I'd like to manage in Spain one day." Kendall's reply "I'm sure you'd last longer than that, Ron".

Neves was (quite rightly) flapping his gums about testing himself in the Champions League a couple of weeks ago.

Have they learned nothing from the Chinese Super League? It doesn't matter who signs up for these projects, nobody gives a toss.

A reply to the tweet I saw about the transfer suggested he could be loaned to Newcastle as some sort of FFP workaround. It wouldn't surprise me.

The only way this  makes some kind of sense is in a "fake it till you make it" sense

If they keep doing this for long enough and burn enough money then eventually they're going to attract enough attention and some people somewhere will give a toss.

Although probably not in Western Europe

The Chinese communist party ran out of patience for this project. The Saudis don't have as much money but might just be more stubborn
