Is it no longer the case that you still get support allowance while you appeal the judgement?
Been a long time since I was in that position, but the situation then was you were declared fit for work by some outside assessor, you appealed the judgement, & it would be a year if you were lucky before your appeal was assessed (which as I was merely convalescing was plenty of time to get back on my feet & into work). Obviously in this case it's merely playing for time, but at least it would mean much needed money coming in.
Whatever the case, kick up as much shit as possible - the press, the works. The only lingo the DWP understands is bad publicity when they're being c***s.

No. The DWP introduced the "Mandatory Reconsideration" to the process around 2013 IIRC. It's basically another DWP decision maker looking at the assessment report. If found fit for work, the claimant has to request the MR within 4 weeks of the decision date. ESA is stopped from the moment the claimant is found fit for work post-assessment, until the MR process has been exhausted and leave to appeal to tribunal has been given. This can be anything from 4 weeks and more. I had one case where the MR took 4 months.

During this MR period the claimants only option is to claim Jobseekers Allowance, and in most cases they'll be given a very light claimant commitment, there are weird pitfalls even with this though.

Basically the DWP brought this additional step in to make the appeal process harder, and have largely succeeded, which is an utter disgrace.

Hilary Benn ?
I think a large proportion of the PLP and grass root members would be supportive if he was the leader.
Never know, there could be trouble ahead for Corbyn if he (Benn) is deselected from his Leeds seat.

Could see him as a placeholder, I think long to medium term the party may look towards Sadiq Khan, though obviously he's got his hands full with his current job at the moment.

Not quite sure how that relates to my question.

Not yours. The implication of some posts is that Hamas support a 2 state solution - they don't.

It's also the implicit Israelis bad Palestinians good argument that some here try to play - the reality is that both the Israelis and Palestinians are led by arseholes.

Berwick is used to international squabbling. Anyway, as Ruth said during Indyref, Putin's submarines are lying just off the coast.

Fair enough.  I think that there's two key things to consider in this situation however.

The first is that Israel is the oppressor and the Palestinians are the oppressed.  It is Israel that is calling the shots and any solution will only come about if Israel want it to happen.  I can't think of a time in recent history when this has looked further from happening.

The second thing is, what do you do if you are a Palestinian with a legitimate objective and absolutely no chance of seeing that objective realised through the democratic process?  What do you do if you see ongoing repression and brutality and your communities put under huge pressure through the building of walls, restriction of movement, and deprivation of basic necessities? Are you surprised that people in that situation support terrorist organisations and turn to terrorism themselves?  I'm not.

It's what happened with the ANC in South Africa when people were denied a political course to pursue a legitimate objective.

I think she also said he's "waving his nuclear weapons around in the air". Definitely not scaremongering.

Whoever offered up Clr Lesley Brennan to GMS this morning should be shot.
A truly awful performance.
If this is an example of new talent in Labour they are in a worse position than many imagine.

I made the same point in another thread.

Has to be one of the worst media performances ever - an incoherent mess.

Thankfully Gerry Hassan was on as well who, as ever, was on the money.

So Germany produce maps of Europe that make Great Britain about the size of Spain, France and Germany too? I thought that was just us.

That's like saying a six year old and Brock Lesnar are arseholes. One has a greater capacity to cause harm acting like an arsehole.
