Growing up, I never expected the Berlin Wall to come down or the Soviet Union to disappear. I never expected you could get cheap flights to any of these places.

What about you?

Have your old school mates slipped you drugs?

ETA: In all seriousness - the situation in North Korea in the 21st Century is pretty bizarre and i struggle to get my head around it.

Retrospectively (as whilst I was alive at the time I was too young to understand the seriousness of it), the Troubles were a big one. Conflict happens all over the world, but I just find it bizarre to think that just 20 years ago people were killing others primarily because of religion only a few miles away from Scotland.

Obviously it is still ongoing (Real IRA and all that), but not on the scale it was thankfully.

Whilst I knew it would happen, I can't believe people actually voted against independence.

Taking concorde out of service has regressed air travel. I know it was a vanity thing but all the same, it's unusual to see the time it takes to get somewhere increase ratger than decrease. Inverness and Ross County winning national trophies. You couldn't have seen that coming in the 80s.

Digital music, mp3 players etc.

The Internet. And pretty much everything that goes with it. Smartphones, YouTube, Facebook, online business etc.

The September 11th attacks.

GPS navigation.

AIDS

The Lockerbie bombing.

Digital cameras.

A large number of Scots choosing to be ruled by the English.

Leicester City.

The number of people who supported Bush's invasion of Iraq.

A black American president. I assumed it would happen in my lifetime but not as soon as it did.

The adoption of the Euro.

On the other hand; it's 2016 and the best way for a doctor to check the health of your prostate is STILL to stick a finger up your arse and poke around. WTF?

An interesting thread in the politics forum.

Vikington amiably disagreeing with someone.

Vikington amiably accepting he got something wrong.

An Aberdeen fan accepting their players don't really merit a call up to the Scotland squad.

Scott Brown beating his man with a deft touch.

Hibs performing above expectation.

Rangers being liquidated

Scotland having an independence referendum and voting against it

All the larger scale news stories such as 9/11 have been staged by a select few sick b*****ds who run the world but were quite shocking at the time

On a personal level, i never thought i would live in Edinburgh as I grew up hating the place
