MarkoRaj
One thing that is missing from most people's postives to take from this result is that we get to Nicola absolutely leather Ruth every week at FMQs. At least Dugdale could say things like 'the tories have cut x and y and you've not done anything about it' whereas Ruth is not going to have a leg to stand on in most of the arguments. Does she expect to be able to attack Sturgeon from the right on a weekly basis? I can't see that being viewed in much of a positive light. Let's see how Ruth's approval ratings last after being consistently battered by Nic
Gordon EF
It was a good night for the Tories. It was not a good night for the 'unionist bloc'. They were eviscerated in 2011. Losing vote share and getting a couple more MSPs due to electoral arithmetic is now seen as a success in their eyes, because they're diddies. Fide
Aww, Fuzzy seems upset. Did the nasty vegans hide your tuna sandwiches? Are you still pished? What a result for Davisdson and the Tories! How did that happen!!? A minority government position for the SNP, certainly wasn't in the plan for those riding on the wave of the 'yellow Tsunami' ( some of the posts on the predictions thread are looking pretty wild right now) The Unionist voice is clearly still strong, a 2nd Ref pushed further and further back. Fantastic effort!! And yet the SNP got 1/4 million more votes than in 2011. The constitutional question is going nowhere.
RedRob72
2/10. The 'yellow tsunami' still walked it you tit. Chip, chip, chip, another five years in power, 5 further years of damaging devisive government, let's see if you've still got your head stuck up yer arse then eh!? Pretty sure all our heads will be up our arses until independence. 226,000 more votes the SNP got Rab. That vote isn't going anywhere.

Fantastic effort!! Of course 'the unionist voice' is still strong, why wouldn't it be? It was a decent result for the SNP, who after such a polarising event as the Indy ref were never going to count on the levels of support they had in 2011. Yet they are still in a position to move their programme of government through with little interference from the Tories as the SNP can go into coaltion with the Greens, horse trade with them or the LDs and rely on Labour abstinence to ride roughshod over the tories. As for the 2nd ref, you are retrospectively pushing that on the SNP to claim a victory. The SNP did not include a manifesto commitment to a new referendum beyond 'a material change in circumstances' and with the Europhilic Greens in tow, there is still a pro indy majority to bring it to the people in the event of a split vote on brexit should that occur. As that is the only concievable change in cirucmstances that will occur, then the 2nd Indy ref is, where it was always going to be, on the other side of the next Holyrood election. After 5 more years of debilitating Tory government down south, a failed Labour party and 4 years of the Tories as the petty, xenophobic face of Unionism north of the border. Fantastic effort, right enough.

Peppino Impastato
You know that is what influencing is, right? hardly, they can pass legislation with handful of msps from any party anyway its as likely to be the lib ems as the greens, all they've achieved is to split the independence vote and deny the snp a majority
Granny Danger
Increasing the constituency vote by quarter of a million after two terms as incumbents is now a bad result apparently Yeah and getting near to a majority in a system that was designed to avoid a majority. The Unioinists are not half clutching at straws.
SlipperyP
But you'd think Labour would do that anyway now. It's not as if they can side with the Tories. This is it. Will or can they side with Tories. It's game over for them. Tories fucking Tories is where their votes are going. I still remember the blood on their hands. I want this party to died a slow death, by today's results it quicker than ever.
StreetwiseHercules
Agreed, it isn't going anywhere, it will stagnate. You underestimate the tenacity of those who will accept nothing less than normalised statehood for Scotland. Those opposed have had it their way for a long time the time will come when that changes. It is inevitable. You know it and in your heart you tremble. They will need to realize their main opponents are the Tories not the SNP. Do they side with them in parliament against the SNP or do they attack them with the SNP? Rock and hard place. Alan Stubbs
The term scrambling for relevance has never been more appropriate. Anyway, pretty happy with that overall. Only concern is the Tories' gains but they're going to struggle with the pretending not be Tories tactic as the lead opposition. Hard to see where Labour goes from here. AyrshireTon
A few folk at work wondering if the SNP have now peaked, but I reckon we'll still see a resounding two fingers to Westminster at the next GE. Are the voters of SNP/other basically saying that they'll trust them to run a government but are not interested in independence?

Thereisalight..
Just spoke to my uncle. He was staunch Labour all his days, but yesterday he voted Tories for the first time as, in his words, "they're the only ones who'd demand answers from the SNP". Make of that what you will
