I have genuinely no idea who Rhys Armstrong is, but Luke McBeth made a far bigger step up and looks great so f**k it.

Our title winning team at this level in 2012/13 had plenty of players who we signed from way down the pyramid. From memory I can think of Doolan, Erskine, Craigen, Muirhead and Taylor-Sinclair who had all been signed from League Two or below. There might be others I’m forgetting as well.

I also have no idea about Armstrong, but seems the exact sort of market we should be shopping in for cheap squad depth. Especially given that we seem to have a pretty good record of finding gems at these types of level.

A good source

A jags fan had rumoured this in January as well though seemed to think there was a chance we may get him in before the end of the January window, though that wasn’t to be and Spartans probably wanted to hold onto him for as long as possible

Currently at Spartans and I think he was in the youth team at Celtic before.

Do you rate him?  Is he a central midfielder?

Most of your post-Airdrie updates in place, with a packed edition of 'Stats Watch'. Donald Wilson's capture nails it!

Partick Thistle 4 Airdrieonians 0 →

:detective:  A MONUMENTAL SEASON FOR GRAHAM

● Amazingly, it's the first half-time stalemate in the league at Firhill in over a year, Queen's Park on 7 April 2023 being the last. Even more amazingly, Thistle won 4 nil that day too.
Kerr McInroy hits double figures for competitive assists this season, now joint-top with Steven Lawless in that chart.
Aidan Fitzpatrick hits the 20 mark in terms of goals/assists combined in all competitions this season.
Brian Graham - the Division's top-scorer - has now scored against every team in the league this season!
Brian Graham's brace (his 13th for the club) moves him onto 20 league goals for the season and he becomes only the 4th post-War to hit such a figure. The 3 other members of this super-exclusive club are Willie Sharp (22, 1953-54), Frank Coulston (21, 1970-71) & Maurice Johnston (22, 1982-83). See our (fully sortable) Top Scorers per season tables for the preceding 148 years.
Brian Graham's tally of 24 goals in all competitions this term is the highest of any Thistle player since Maurice Johnston (35) in 1982-83.
● It's an impressive 3 goals in his 288 minutes for Ricco Diack who has scored in both home league matches with Airdrie this season. On both occasions he scored within 7 minutes of personal action!
● Points-per-game king of 2023-24 is undoubtedly Zander MacKenzie with just 2 losses in 22 games in all competitions this term. See our 'Squad Stats 2023-24' table (note: select the 'full' tab) to drill down more.
● For only the second time in the latest two league seasons, there are no bookings. The other instance? Versus Airdrie at the Excelsior back in August. What's going on?!
● In all competitions, Thistle have now registered 10 consecutive home wins versus Airdrieonians (2009 to date), extending the club-record in the H2H.
● Thistle qualify for the Premiership play-offs for the third successive season, where they will play… Airdrieonians! Third time lucky?
Kris Doolan's Thistle remain unbeaten in 13 games played in the months of April and May. (c/o Matt Greer!)

ongoing sequences:
● 6 competitive games without defeat, 6th Mar 2024 to date. (Longest run since: 6 games, 27th Oct 2023 to 2nd Dec 2023. Joint club-record: 16 games, 15th Nov 1975 to 21st Feb 1976 & 30th Sep 2000 to 13th Jan 2001.)
● 28 games in 3rd place (30th Sep 2023 to date), an extension of the club-record for a position outwith outright top or bottom. Overall, it's the longest run since the club-record of 33 games in bottom pace (12th), set between 20th Sep 2003 and 15th May 2004.

● 33 consecutive competitive appearances for Lewis Neilson, 15th Sep 2023 to date, a new personal best. (Longest run since: Steven Lawless - 60 games, 18th Feb 2023 to 6th Apr 2024. Club-record: Johnny Jackson - 313 games, 28th Aug 1926 to 25th Mar 1933.)

Has that ever happened before for us? Seems unlikely - certainly prior to 10 team divisions.

Only other one (well, it’s a different pyramid) I can think of is Christie Elliott who was playing at some dogshit level in England when we signed him and did at least a serviceable job for a long time.

I’m with you that we have a decent enough record with these sorts of signings, although obviously there’s ones that haven’t worked (I’m looking at you Blair Lyons) it’s worth a shot given it’ll be relatively cheap.

For next season we already have a relatively large number of  players signed up both for a club at this level and for our recent past.

GK: McCready, Stewart (if we exercise option). Erm. Not great.

Defence: Milne, McBeth, Williams, O'Reilly and there was a lot of talk Muirhead had triggered an extension even if nothing official. I'm keeping McBeth here for now but we might try him in midfield again next year.

Midfield/ Wingers: Fitzpatrick, Lawless, Bannigan, Stanway, Mackenzie, Lyon, Robinson

Forwards: Graham, Diack.

That's 16 players - although I don't think we'll sign Stewart (if Doolan has a functioning pair of eyes), Lawless has got to be a large question mark moving forward given the severity of his injury and his age, though obviously I hope I'm wrong on that, and Lyon might get moved on during the summer especially if we're signing another young midfielder.

f**k knows what we'll do with half these guys if we go up , but I'm willing to find out.

Only the final which is now set in stone given Aberdeen can't be in both that and the SC final on 25th- those are Thu 23rd and Sun 26th May.

I'd be very surprised if the others aren't Tuesday and Friday nights given they're on BBC but nothing official as yet, maybe get confirmation tomorrow, they maybe had contingency plans if Aberdeen won yesterday which are no longer required

We have a fucking good laugh and pray that someone else goes into administration.

Dundee will hopefully be good for another - got to sink a LOT of money into their new space stadium (or on providing a playing surface - imagine being worse than ours?!).

We also had Paton who had been signed a few years before from QP.

We certainly seem to have a better record with young Scottish players than signing unknown forwards from down South 😂

I think him and Cairney who we signed around the same time had been in the second division with QP for a season before we brought them in, so not quite as big a jump there.

It’s a shame that Paton turned out to be such an absolute p***k, because he was a good player for us.

There was a discussion about this last year. If I remember right. The home team gets 15% off the top and the remaining 85% is split equally between the home team and the SPFL. So, 57.5% to the home team and 42.5% to the SPFL.
