Raith Against The Machine
Only question mark with Ashcroft is his fitness, particularly when he'll actually be fit again. There was never a prognosis offered other than "out for the season" last year. No idea if he's going to be 100% for day one of pre-season or if he's still weeks/months away. Quality-wise though, as good as you'll get in terms of a big Championship unit who has been the distance. You're never going to get silky football out of him, but you'll not lose many headers either.

Would seem likely that McBeth will be in midfield then. Although given O'Reilly and Ashcroft have less than stellar injury records it's not inconceivable we'll see him at centre half
oneteaminglasgow
Ashcroft - O’Reilly with Williams and Muirhead on the bench and McBeth also able to cover is a central defence that everyone in the championship would be happy with. Need to get right back sorted urgently, and then I think we can take our time a bit more.
Fuctifano
Ashcroft pretty much ideal for where we are, will allow McBeth to play in midfield. I mentioned about Ngwenya a few pages back that it wouldn't surpise me if we were interested in keeping him as cover for both full back positions. He's more likely to get a game for Dunfermline now that they've just sold their left back though and who knows what the money etc is like playing for an English Championship side's U23 team?
JagsCG
Happy with Ashcroft. Presuming he can keep fit he should be a first choice and that would see McBeth go back into midfield - so probably sorted there.
Nightmare
Pleased with Ashcroft. Injury history is a worry but that’s us got decent depth at CB now.
baba douche
Nothing wrong with a bruiser of a defender - we've needed one for a while now.
Bigmouth Strikes Again
Wouldn't say he was injury prone, 110 appearances for us, Docherty also never really played him. Edited June 24 by Bigmouth Strikes Again
Reid
Should be a very good signing if it happens. It’s all coming together quite nicely.
I Clavdivs
Another piece of good news is that Alan Hansen has been discharged from hospital and is now making a recovery at home .

McBeth played there because the alternative wasn't working at the time. We're fortunate it worked out well. WHEREVER McBeth plays, having a hard no-nonsense defender there as well can't hurt!
Fuctifano
Big heid-the-baw centre halves are / should be ten a penny at this level. After a slow start which is understandable given he was going from the 6th tier to the 2nd, McBeth looked as if he had more about him on the ball that would merit playing him in midfield and hopefully he can be the proper Abdul Osman replacement we've needed for about 7 years (Docherty was fine but not quite same type of player) Obviously McBeth can cover CB if there are injuries but I'm glad we missed out on Byrne and signed Ashcroft (if signing one stopped us signing the other) if it allows McBeth to play in midfield

Hopefully a proper pre-season for McBeth will have a meaningful impact for him.
Griff Sheridan
Looks like I picked the right season to start coming back to Firhill.
JagsCG
Pleased with that. Fitzpatrick, Chalmers and MacKay (and hopefully Lawless in the second-half of the season) are really good wide options. Doolan has clearly recognised we lacked depth in that area last season. We’re a decent RB and a backup striker away from looking really promising IMO. New GK New RB - Ashcroft - O'Reilly - Milne MacBeth - Turner Chalmers - Robinson - Fitzpatrick Graham Subs: Mitchell, Muirhead, Williams, New FB cover, Bannigan, Stanway, Crawford, Mackay, Lawless, New ST Send Diack, Lyon and MacKenzie on loan. Thats a more than decent Championship side if we get the other signings right.
