He's done alright but I won't be heartbroken if we can't hold on to Cole. Looking at his contract situation at Wigan I can see it being a bit awkward to sort out and come to an agreement (or an agreement that suits us at least). He's out of contract in the summer so if they extend his loan with us they're effectively releasing him. Given they paid Fleetwood cash money for him I'd have thought they'd want to recoup something on him either a fee for us to take him on permanently or us taking on 100% of his wage for the remainder of his contract or the like. Alternatively they keep him around the club for 6 months and see if he's able to chip in with a few goals here or there before they're relegated. From our point of view I've been very pro-Cole, he's a different sort of forward than we're used to and I can absolutely see why we'd be quite keen to have him stick around, especially as he's taken a while to find his feet but equally he's not really done enough to warrant us going all in on him. Even more so if there are other viable options out there. Clearly I've no idea how much we're chipping in for Cole but freeing up a bit of budget and a first team spot that would let us address some of the issues where Robinson feels we can improve in the final third seems a reasonable trade-off. Tbh, I can see Cole popping up at another Championship side at some point in the future and doing quite well. A sort of Lewis Grabban, Nick Blackman type footnote. Hearts fans have convinced themselves they're signing him, and that'll be the trigger that saves them, so him joining you lot would be tremendous viewing.

According to his Transfermarkt he's currently out with his cruciate done. He's someone we were linked with in the past though and we've a habit of revisiting previous targets. We were in for Ciftci 3 times by the time he signed (once with McGhee and twice with Robinson) I think and were linked with Michael O'Halloran pretty much every window going for a while. There have been a few others I'm sure...then you add in former players. Anyway, ahead of the window opening here's a cut out and keep guide to our contract expiries: January 20: Cole (loan expires) - (1) Summer 20: Carson, Ferguson, Gillespie, Tait, Grimshaw, Hartley, Dunne, Livingstone, Maguire, Long, Manzinga, Ilic, MacIver, O'Hara (loan expires) - (14) Summer 21: Carroll, Mugabi, Gallagher, Campbell, Turnbull, Sloth, Polworth, Seedorf, Hylton, Devine, Semple, Cornelius - (12) Summer 22: Scott, Donnelly - (2) Edited December 29, 2019 by capt_oats

Archie McSquackle
Are we due to head off for a winter training camp after the Accies game? It sounds as though Cole will be away after tomorrow but Robinson does have a history of signing players and taking them away or tying them up towards the end of the transfer window?

I don't think it's been officially announced as "the team are going to Tenerife" but Andy_P alluded to it in his AGM summary on Steelmen. Quote [re: Turnbull] "No timescales for his return but seeing a specialist to step things up further and he will go to Tenerife on the break." "He insisted though the trip away was incredibly beneficial and quoted stats about how well we have done after these breaks. Robinson also mentioned the use of contacts within the squad to take advantage of facilities at very favourable terms in both Tenerife and Northern Ireland." I'm pretty sure Robinson was talking up the benefits of going over there in his Long Listen interview which pretty much suggested we'd be going back over. You're right enough though Main & Ciftci both signed up in time for the training camp (3rd & 9th Jan respectively) and McCormack was at the Accies game prior to the winter break last season. He signed 5th January and Ariyibi signed on the 7th. The team flew out on the 8th. Edited December 29, 2019 by capt_oats

Was definitely out there as a done deal at AGM, with Robinson explaining that they get a great deal on it via Craig Hinchcliffe’s mate (or something like that). Likewise Robinson’s ex wife was apparently instrumental in keeping the costs down for the Norn Iron summer trip.
supermarv
Couple posts back mentioned Ariyibi signing for us. What a player he was, imagine him in this team right, immense player, I like Hylton a lot but he has more to give still and I think Ariyibi is a level above the players we have at the club regarding his position.

Casagolda
Well he’s not Lafferty but he is an International striker.. Link Without Cole, you saw today how stretched our options were. Sticking Seedorf on up front was slightly bemusing from Robinson right enough.
