Motherwell FC - A Thread For All Seasons

I don’t think Keith fancied the Manager’s job, he’s too clever for that. He has found his true calling with the Buddies and he ain’t coming back!

He seems to be doing a good job at Saint Mirren but most of what they're bring in looks to be stuff that we (Flow perhaps) have already introduced - fair play to him, that's probably why he was taken on as St. Mirren follow us down the fan-owned route.

Alan Burrows has done tremendously well for us and, from the initial days of following his reports from McGhee's training camp in Austria, it's been great having an out and out Well fan involved at the club and being so vocal and visible in his role. God luck to him whatever his next step may be - I'm amazed he's stayed so long as he has progressed right through the ranks and now hit the ceiling at the club. The stress and affect on family and social life must have been massive and he's due a well-earned break.

For all the comments about it affecting the rest of our season, he's staying on just now and the budget has no doubt already been worked out - I can't see his departure changing the signing policy.

I don't think I could do it even for £40k. I'd end up being one of those mad chairmen who get involved in training sessions and tactics. I'd also get through about 6 managers a season.

I can also see the Daily Record headline - 'Well chief calls supporter "moaning face c**t" in heated Twitter exchange.

I don't know how an actual Motherwell supporter could deal with the job. I'd be sacked on my first day for shouting "get it sooked" to Douglas Ross after a marginal offside call or using the club CRM database to send endless late night chinese takeaways to twitter wanks.

You could pay me 150k a year for that job and it wouldn't make a difference as I'd never see it. Within 9 months I'd have been on the roof of the south stand either shooting random people from it or jumping off it.

Can only echo the sentiments wondering just how he did it. In my mature old age I've noticed/developed the 'one pint theory' which is no result winds me up longer than the time for my first beer after the game.

But that's a world of difference to being first in, last out of FP however many days a week and carrying the unrealistic expectations of thousands of folk on your shoulders at the cost of your own health and (presumably) family. f**k that for a laugh, give me the uninformed speculation and chronic banter every time.

I think I caused a bit of a stir with my first comment, however contrary to speculation I'm not a disgruntled employee, but a fan over over 30 years....I'll hold my hands up and admit I made a dick of myself, but again no-one is perfect.

Anyway, whilst I had a go at Alan, by no means did I want to see him leave the club, especially whilst are in this position.  I don't blame him at all, he has a young family and at the end of the day it's only a job and we all seek to better ourselves.

I cannot argue with his passion for and commitment to his job and hope he goes onto bigger and better things, he deserves it as do his family.

For me, we shouldn't we fixated on another 'Well fan and need to go and get someone in the mould of Leanne (a self confessed current bun) to inject new thinking and structure at Motherwell.

Under Alan's watch the record of appointing ex players was staggering, some good, some bad, but it's life and we never get it 100%.  Hopefully we can bring fresh blood and bounce out of this hole.

I'm an MBA with a desire to take the next step in my career, I can throw around big words with the best of them, I'm a great people leader according to the p***ks that work for me, I love the club dearly, and I'm also chubby with a beard.

Unfortunately I couldn't pass the online screening for the job because I ticked "none" for "desire to have a heart attack before I'm 45", and my answer to "how would you work with other clubs to better the game" was "f**k those c***s".

I guess it's about who you know.

Wasn't you having a go at him using his personal twitter, its you today downvoting 3 folk on here who ridiculed the moon howlers on Twitter asking inane questions, making crazy demands or calling out BoozyBJ's shite post.

The inference I'm gonna make is despite your 30 years you've been guilty of it on occasion.

Flow has been looking to move on for a while now. This is not sudden by any means.

Does it mean the club is in trouble as main P&B man suggested / tweeted. Who knows. I hope not.

Does it mean he has been offered another role at another club already. Who knows. Certainly brave if that is not the case.

He is earning circa £75k a year. Decent money but way off what a CEO of a top flight club would be earning even Motherwell. I suspect any replacement will start on £125k+ if you want to attract someone with experience and ability.

There may be more to it. But as above I believe he feels he has served his time and needs a fresh challenge with a better financial package than we could or would offer him.

No doubt he excels at communicating and I would hope the Board factor that in when recruiting a replacement. Don’t want to go from someone who shares and explains what he can v radio silence.

Anyway I wish him all the best as it appears 99% of fellow Well fans do.

100%. Combination of personal stuff (some openly shared, others not) and also ambition. Fair play.

Just hope we can get someone in to take over who is as passionate and has their head screwed on. Being a fan of the club not particularly important to me given the remaining board (McMahon, Feely and Dickie) are all big fans themselves.

I actually wondered if the fact that the rumours were out on places like here had some influence in the timing of the announcement today.

He alluded to that in a tweet to one of his reply guys earlier.

Anyway, not really much to add to what everyone else has already said. He's been in the job almost 9 years as CEO and when you look at the era that has covered (fan ownership, record turnovers, profit etc) he's done a remarkable job and is fully entitled to leave on the terms he wants.

I mean, given the absolute shite he's had to put up with from the roasters in our support I don't blame him for wanting to take a step back. That's before you take into account any personal reasons he may have. He doesn't owe anyone anything.

I wouldn't say I'm shocked, largely for the reasons folk have mentioned in the thread. It's the sort of role that's going to leave you open to burnout.

As a few others have pointed out, he remains in position until they've identified a successor so that's something but to echo @Swello's post being down a CEO, Head of Academy and a Head of Media is...a lot.

Aye, I saw yer man Scott hurtling about pre-match and christ, that's a lot to do even just on the media side.

It is, on the whole, a wee bit alarming. If we were sitting safe and boring then who cares but there's an awful lot of  non-running-about-between-the-lines experience just... gone.

Football is stupid and exhausting to work in and as much as the principle of "I could give it a bash" is one that many subscribe to I reckon, it is specialised and it requires the knowledge and relationships to get shit done, same as anything else.

I think the key thing for the club right now is all about recruitment and in that sense, we are in a slightly precarious position. The most important thing for supporters is first team recruitment and it remains to be seen how today's announcement affects that -but we are now down a CEO, an Academy Head and A Head of Media.

Not be alarmist but that is a lot of stuff to get right, some for the short term but in the case of CEO and Academy, they are critical strategic roles.

On top of that Swello, all those things your cite have panned out since that strip was launched.

Our best two performances all year were 3-2 at Pittodrie and 5-0 in Dingwall .... both in the white strip.

It's fate I tell ye

In Flao's tenure he's faced pestilence and floods, he's only avoided Locusts and the Nile turning to blood.

It will be an interesting transition from a "fan run club" to a more conventional CEO arrangement. In some aspects, it could be positive to have someone look at things from a more dispassionate point of view - but we will lose a huge amount of "empathy" in the process. We probably don't know the number of decisions that are made with built in knowledge/experience of what works for our club and our support - and that won't be clear until things don't happen that way any more.
