Suggests another signing?

A total guess, but if he was heading back to United, perhaps today's boardroom issues meant the deadline was beyond them. Releasing him, I suppose, allows them to pick him up on a free.

I shouldn't be delighted to lose a player, but – the odd game apart – I thought we were a worse team when Paton was on the team sheet.

Not the biggest fan of Paton (understatement) but still very surprised at this and it'll be interesting to see where he pitches up. What I'd say though is he's a guy you'd want in the trenches with you and if we do have a battle a few months down the line, he wouldn't have been the worst option.

So limited technically though that he could be painful to watch at times.

If nobody else comes in you have to assume TW sees Willock as being as good or better. Would mean we have Muzz, Millar, Craig and Willock all ahead of him central, along with Spoony who TW seems desperate to play there.

@tree house tam you predicted a player out before a player comes in, am I away to look like a twat on WAP for saying we had no chance with MOH?

f**k knows. I heard we had been offered/wanted him this morning, could've been pish though. Kyle heard something similar too I think.

That’ll be apart from the great pass to Liam to set up the third?

I'm not ignoring twenty attempts at just smashing a ball forty yards in whatever direction he was facing on the basis of one good pass. He's a Championship standard player on the ball.

Ooft, that's a shock. I would have thought that Millar or Alston would be released before Paton. You'd expect that at least one of those two will be gone in the summer. With the departure of Paton as well,  we will be requiring a major rebuilding job. It's the beginning of a new era.

As for Pates, I feel a bit sorry for him (unless he's got something lined up already). He came to the club with a somewhat negative reputation, but I'm sure that he has been a positive influence within the squad. Not the most gifted footballer, but you could never fault his effort or attitude. I wish him all the best.
