Benn has ruled himself out of the running to replace Corbyn, according to Sky News.

Angela Eagle is now being mooted as a potential candidate for his replacement. Anybody who believes that's a remotely good idea should be made to lie down in a darkened room until after the next election. She is absolutely woeful.

Angela Eagle would be the perfect choice to lead Labour. The party would suffer a cataclysmic electoral collapse.

Andy Burnham refusing to join the coup. Spineless, can't stand the idea of getting blood on his hands.

Perhaps partly because he needs grassroots Labour members to elect him as their nomination for Manchester mayor?

Nothing can save the Labour Party now. It's fucking finished.

They can stick with Corbyn who proper lefties like, but the country as a whole won't vote for in sufficient numbers to win an election. Or dump him, go for a Blairite and try the slightly nicer red tory party schtick again, probably losing the Corbynites in the process. Either way, the numbers aren't there.

This has all the hallmarks of 1983 with the Blairite wing staging a coup or fucking off with an SDP mark two.

Hilary Benn would be my prediction. It will have to be someone who doesn't see themselves as a long term leader. Labour's only Scottish MP resigns as shadow Scots secretary, who will replace him?

It'll have to be you, Jmo, IMO.

This. Absolutely incredible. What planet are c***s like Benn on? Do they not realise that this is the time to be united? It's not even like there are huge divisions on remain and leave sides, they all agree on this issue!

It's pretty straightforward and was stated exactly like this by Tristam Hunt on radio earlier - they fear an Autumn election and wipeout with Corbyn at the helm. They want someone else in place to at least give the Tories a contest.

So what's the deal with the five year terms that the coalition put in place? Are there accepted triggers for having one sooner?

For a new election either

1. 2/3rds of parliament votes for it

2. they repeal the Fixed Term Parliament Act which only requires 50%

3. There is a vote of no confidence in the government and no other government can be formed

Politcally though if Boris as new PM wants a General Election to secure a mandate it seems very imprudent to deny that opportunity. Denying the public to make their opinion known would be yet another stick to batter the Labour party with right through to 2020.

There are a number of arrogant p***ks in the PLP who think their role is to dictate to the party rather than represent it. These folk have never accepted Corbyn and would have used any excuse to challenge him. If they genuinely had the courage of their convictions they would resign their seats and put themselves before the electorate again, with or without forming/joining another political party.

Found this on Twitter and it makes a fairly good point. The PLP/membership/voters all want drastically different things. post-13555-14669480898555_thumb.jpg
