Remembering the 12th of July

Recommended Posts

James Cook was, by any measure, a remarkable person.  He spent many years ferrying troops of scientists, artists, botanists and cartographers around the globe.  Tomorrow is the 240th anniversary of his third significant voyage...the one where he came to grief in Hawaii:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_voyage_of_James_Cook

Thank you, James and RIP.  You're one of the people who changed the world.

I hope nobody (else) mentions the Battle of the Boyne, as it took place on July 1st or July 11th, depending on which calendar you're going by.

I didn't go to school in Scotland, so I've never heard of it.

Did the good guys win?

At work, I sometimes have to check people's Outlook calendars.

There's this lassie who is a total straightoid - goes to Church, is a leader at the Girl Guides - you'd never imagine that she'd ever be involved in anything iffy.

I was checking her calendar for this week - it has one entry for July 12th - it simply says 'Battle of the Boyne'!

I genuinely don't know what to think.

Are they having another one?

Nobody invites me to anything, man

The 12th of July 2016 marks 39 years since Brock Lesnar entered this world.

Happy birthday, Brock.

That's more like it.  I was hoping this thread might have developed to a discussion of other estimable British navigators, TBH
