RedRob72
Sturgeon said she’d be willing to speak to Corbyn on Marr this morning and if they could get in to a position to work together then why not basically. She did say she would be willing to help him show leadership or something like that so I can’t see it personally If another GE results from this fiasco, strategically it could be a smart move for the SNP. There’s no way English voters will back a Labour government being dictated to by the Scottish Nationalists (the tail wagging the dog), and so re-elect a cobbled together Tory Government albeit with another slim majority. This offers an open goal to the SNP, it’s becomes a fairly ‘easy sell’ to the majority of Scottish voters who respond in kind, a second referendum is set and secured. Listening to Nicola Sturgeon on Andrew Marr this morning, she quietly and confidently knows she has no need to rush into a second Ref. ‘Waiting for the dust to settle’ Brexit (deal or no deal), will eventually deliver her wish for independence on a plate. An announcement may be imminent, but feel sure she’ll wait until the picture clears for the electorate to experience the folly of leaving the EU at first hand. It can only strengthen her position.

NotThePars
Labour will likely threaten the SNP with enabling a Tory government if they don’t back them in a future parliament. It’ll come down to who calls the other’s bluff. I don’t know if Corbyn personally cares too much about Scottish independence and would probably support further devolution but there’s enough arseholes in Slab up here that prioritise hating the SNP over any ideology to accept anything which benefits the SNP.

That's probably right – and the Tories will again argue that voting Labour will give power to the SNP. But there's only so long they can continue with this negative approach before realising how badly it plays in Scotland. Trying desperately to keep the levers of government away from a party that Scots have legitimately voted for isn't the best selling point for promoting Westminster as a place that benefits Scotland. RedRob72
Presumably the DUP holding Theresa to ransom is acceptable to the English electorate?I don’t think they had much choice, it certainly wasn’t mentioned in the Tory manifesto in the event of a hung parliament. Although Im sure there are many down south who are pissed off with the situation, you would imagine that the DUP being Pro-British, might offer the arrangement at least some leeway and the fact that previous administrations have relied upon NI Unionist support.

I really couldn’t call who’s more likely to call the other’s bluff.

Everything in this country is about self preservation, short term thinking and general selfishness, it's the attitude that's prevalent across the whole of society from the top down and why we're currently fcuked............

It’s hard to disagree with that but it’s not new. I would like to think that in an independent Scotland there would be more consideration for our fellow citizens. That doesn’t mean I’m expecting utopia.

Agreed, at least we would be in a position to influence political and social direction as opposed to being inconsequential within the UK framework.
