St Johnstone vs Partick Thistle

Recommended Posts

If Millar or Davidson are remotely fit next week they both need to play. We can't go to Tynecastle with Craig at CM. we absolutely surrendered the midfield in the second half and didn't press them nearly enough in the first.

Yup. Took Craig 88 minutes to go touch tight to Edwards. We had a wee moment in the second half where we had Thistle completely cornered at their own 16 yard line, then Craig inexplicably dropped 20 yards, they used the space and got a shot off.

Hes alright in games we want to shitfest, but him and Paton in the middle today was a complete joke.

First half so so. Second half we were dugshite poor.

Blair Alston finally gets going, has his best game for us so far by a mile and his confidence must be sky high.  So he's dropped to the bench.

Chris Kane also put in a good shift midweek.  And we drop the pair of them for Spoony and Cummins who have both been badly out of form.  (Great skill by Spoony for our goal though).

Chris Millar also was very good, but maybe him dropped is understandable with his injury record.

We're not good enough to mess around with squad rotation, our best team at the time should start every game.

Liam Craig as our shoe-in starting central midfielder is bizarre.  Another average at best performance capped off by selling the game in the last minute.

Paul Paton had an okay first half but started to annoy me in the second with his love of a big loopy cross-field switch of play which bounces up and puts a team mate under pressure.  The ball doesn't have to go sideways or backwards every single time; all he does is put pressure on others to play it forwards from a worse position, so it looks like he isn't the one giving the ball away.

Well done Thistle, good week for them.  Any other bottom six dross fancy 3 points?? Get yourselves along to McDiarmid, we're absolutely giving them away.

:(

Good game today, thoroughly enjoyed it. Thought we played high up the field and weren't trying to defend the point.. much better team when we do this rather than sit back. Total nap to see doolan score countered with the total surprise and scenes of late winner. Thot Welsh had a fantastic game btw

16 yard line you say?

Apart from the obvious, delightful bit of skill for the goal, Wotherspoon was completely anonymous. I had actually forgotten he was playing towards the end of the first half.

Can't expect to play Craig/Paton against a 3 and get a result, much less when Swanson is taken off for Coulson, WTF is that about. Only creative player in the squad and he's hooked for Michael fucking Coulson, someone who appears to try quite hard but with very limited ability.

Thought foster looked pretty solid, and the ref handled the first hour or so well, before reverting to giving random fouls each way for no apparent reason.

Overall thistle deserved the win, and bonus points to the boy who came on to the track during the celebrations, sold the steward a fantastic dummy and left her on her arse.

I actually agreed with bringing Swanson off. He'd gone into full "stroppy c**t" mode and was standing with his hands on hips in disgust every time someone dared pass it the other way. I know half his success here is due to getting a freeish role, but we needed him to graft today and he let us down.

I don't think Coulson is that bad, and he could be okay if he gets a chance.

When Kane came on for Cummins we went 4-3-1-2 with Danny behind the front two.  In truth it did nothing for us as it left an already struggling centre midfield even more exposed, so Coulson coming on and back to 4-4-2 was probably the right move.

Can understand Tommy wanting Swanson thru the middle and pushing for the 3 points, but it didn't work at all, and in truth Danny's decision making wasn't great today.  None of our midfield/ forward players played particularly well in that second half.

Partick are the one team that Tommy Wright has yet to master in terms of tactics, he just has not found a successful way of stopping them from dominating the centre of the pitch and possession.
