I'm not saying the story is true as I don't know much about Afghanistan, but it seems to have been confirmed from multiple sources, UK intelligence too and US staff have been talking about it since March. Also, would intelligence sources not always be anonymous - spies don't tend to reveal who they are. It's also possible the intelligence agencies knew this and chose not to tell him - which isn't a particularly good look either. Again, I know sfa about Afghanistan / us intelligence but it seems to be more than just the nyt saying it. I agree. But at the very least, the information provided by the US intelligence services wouldn’t have been completely ignored. There really is nothing to be gained from pointedly ignoring intelligence and carrying on operations regardless. Edit: it’s more likely that he wasn’t briefed as he couldn’t be trusted. Intelligence can’t continue to operate like that long term. As Madwullie says, though, there’s nobody disputing the facts of this report, including the White House itself.
