Post Split Fixtures

Recommended Posts

Another example of how the SPFL treat 40 of the 42 SPFL teams with utter contempt. With three/four games still to be played prior to the Premiership split, Sky announce yesterday that the Rangers/Celtic match will be played on 29th April. Why not tell us when the Aberdeen/St Johnstone or St Johnstone/Hearts matches will be played. Ludicrous.

Think the only reason for that is, with it being obvious us and The Rangers are in the top 6 Police Scotland and others would want plenty notice of date of said fixture, once announced SKY will straight away snap it up for live TV, no instituitional favouritism, although it does happen at times, but not in this instance.

Clearly the early announcement of the date is for police and planning.

Easy solution to that. When the post split fixtures are announced for ALL teams, make the pointless Rangers/Celtic match the final league game of the season and still weeks of notice for all concerned. Every club and their fans should be treated in the same way. I would love to know where Aberdeen are playing on 29th April.

Utterly typical behavior from the SPFL. Old firm fans get a month to make plans while we'll get a week or so. But then we don't matter as much as them

It was for the police, they have pushed for early announcement of the date.

Sorry that doesnt fit in with your conspiracy theory, and you lot say Celtic fans are paranoid?

I really don't see how they can do this.

The post-split fixtures are apparently seeded based on last season's positions.

If the Top 6 last time round end up the same this time, each team gets 19 home and away fixtures - twice home and away against each of the other top six clubs.

Given it looks like Partick and Sevco will replace Ross County and Motherwell from last season, then it would seem Sevco as the promoted club are the lowest seeds and thus most at risk with being on the wrong end of the fixture anomaly that often occurs - this could mean a third visit to Parkhead, Pittodrie or Tynecastle. Nothing can surely be confirmed until all the top six clubs are known.

So as ever, two clubs are treated as a special case, even when it comes to the rule book.

think a few heads are gone here....

simply the police will want maximum notice possible and for obvious reasons the last league match could never be pre scheduled to be a Glasgow derby.

there are inequities with the split such as Celtic and rangers/sevco being guaranteed 2 home matches against each other should both finish top 6 but this particular matter is not one of them.

Why are you guaranteed two home and away matches with each other? Neither team ever gets a 18/20 split of home/away matches either, despite the fact it's only fair they should at some point.

Yet again other teams will be disadvantaged because the authorities treat the Old Firm differently

It also shows that they just don't give a f**k about what anyone other than the bigots think. The date could easily have been arranged with the police and not announced until all the others are.

not sure if you are arguing or agreeing with me....

it's not officially guaranteed, but it obviously is.... and you are right not to be happy about that.

There's a difference between an official announcement and someone ITK blabbing as well you know.

Some utter fucking foamers on this thread.

Date of one fixture announced early by Police results in fans of other clubs not affected react like vampires being hit by sunlight

I've already pointed out that when ALL the fixtures should have been announced once the six teams are known, the Rangers/Celtic match is made the last fixture to give all concerned plenty of time to make arrangements. Why is it 'heads gone' to want all teams to be treated equally and fairly?

Would never happen . Imagine a scenario like we seen a good few times before 2012 where the race went down to the wire .police wouldn't allow another title decider to take place after 1999. Although it did happen in 2012 due to the fact Celtic could have won it at ibrox before the split and little the police could do in regards to that scenario unfolding .only way the fixture would not have been first game after the split is if there was a realistic opportunity of Celtic winning the league on that day

And there is a possibility that a Rangers/Celtic match on the last day of this season will be a title decider?
