New clubs in the East of Scotland

That looks a decent addition, and I'm sure that they've looked into the problem of attracting players and finances etc. What's West Linton etc a village, size wise ? Wonder what crowds they get, especially as it looks close to some other clubs. Sounds a good set up with good people behind the scenes.

I think it's a population around 2,000-ish - so not tiny!

I'm sure they'll be able to get players along... getting into the league will increase the profile they have (I certainly wasn't aware of them before)

Its an outstanding venue.

Very much a "football ground".

Decent committee.  Great clubhouse.  nice pies, nice beer.

Really, really struggle to get players to go there.  Thus they bumble along at the bottom of the 3rd division in Leafa Amateurs.

I wish them well and hope the EOS can help them attract players.

Cant see any reason for EOS to decline their membership.  Rubber stamp job.

I guess it's not much of a risk for them, if it doesn't work out they go back amateur.  They're a division below Kirkliston South Queensferry AFC who are supposed to be working towards applying.

Another club in LEAFA who have been around a while and who have their own ground are Loganlea United. They would need to fence it in, and put in changing facilities, but the pitch has the usual post and rail Junior style fence.  Maybe it's too much of an investment for a club that's only a stones throw from Stoneyburn.

There are a few Borders clubs with decent set ups. Greenlaw is definitely one, Chirnside and Earlston are not bad, Tweeddale's Park at the top of The Gytes is probably better than what Peebles Rovers have to deal with down on the main pitch. I know one other looking to switch soon but still too early to say.

Delighted for Linton if they are accepted though, just hope they can put a decent team out with Penicuik, Peebs and VoL on their doorstep

Duns had a fantastic ground too where Manchester City I think opened it not that long ago.

My old school hockey pitch (after I was at 'swade), even the school team had to go to Gavinton back then! It was hockey or rugby only

Probably 11, assuming Linlithgow Rose win promotion.

Should have phrased that more carefully. Brechin City promoted with Albion Rovers, Bonnyrigg Rose, or Stranraer relegated sending Edinburgh Uni down to the EoS premier is one scenario to keep an eye on. Darvel or Auchinleck Talbot rather than Beith winning the WoS championship could also complicate matters in the west by forcing Linlithgow Rose into a promotion playoff but that's looking increasingly less likely.

The WoS seems to have imposed an end of March dead-line for applications from potential new clubs. Is the same dead-line in place in the EoS?

Even with additional relegations from the 2nd Division there could be four vacancies in Div.3. Any likely applicants showing yet? Presumably the usual Cupar Hearts speculation but nothing much else in time for next season?

The EoSL has traditionally had a 31st March closing date for new applicants. On occasions it has published the NUMBER of new applicants, WITHOUT naming them.

Update for the Lurker -

Darvel have 55 points with 3 matches to play = max 61 points if they win them all.

Talbot have 47 points with 5 matches to play = max 62 points if they win them all.

.Beith  already have 63 points, so can't be overtaken.

Linlithgow Rose will be EoSL champions 2022/23, as they can't be now be overtaken (by Sauchie Juniors or any other EoSL club),  and will be promoted to the Lowland League, as they do hold an SFA Licence. Congratulations.

Nearly as the SOSFL isn't finished yet, the playoff is still a reality but it needs Creettown to win the SOSFL as they have been granted a weaver for the playoff as they have got all the criteria for a license and just need it rubber stamped by the SFA in June.
So if Creetown win their league then they will playoff against Linlithgow Rose to see who goes to the Lowland league

The top SOSFL teams still have 2 games each to play to finish league

Pos Team Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts Qualification
1 Abbey Vale 20 17 1 2 93 22 +71 52 Qualification for the Lowland League play-off
2 Creetown 20 16 4 0 63 13 +50 52
3 Lochar Thistle 21 15 4 2 75 28 +47 49

What has this got to do with new EoS member clubs??

Linton Hotspur have been accepted as members of the EoS for next season provided their groundworks are completed by the AGM, which looks likely.  A very well organised club.

So a team who aren't even one of the strongest teams in their current league - 3rd division...and near the bottom of that league; are joining the EoS league!

And we slag off the Lowland League!

Anyone can join the EOS if they meet the criteria, they'll of course start at the bottom of the pyramid and sink or swim.

Not anything at all like the LL and you'd either have to be trolling or stupid beyond words to think that.

They almost certainly won't be going with the same team in an EoS context so at that point it's the quality of their facilities that is the determining factor. This looks like it could wind up being Steelend Vics without a town like Dunfermline relatively close by to draw players from but hopefully it works out OK for them.

Strongest has nothing to do with joining the East of Scotland. Their set up already looks better than many existing clubs, anyway they could always potentially buy their way to the top, just like Manchester City, good luck to the new club.

Sorry if this has been covered earlier on this thread Burnieman but is Linton Hotspur the only new club joining the EOSFL or are there others or have a few applied and have not been successful?

They were the only applicant

The point is that they aren't in the pyramid, and then apply to join a pyramid league in the bottom tier for their region. If the LEAFA were to join the pyramid underneath the EOSFL it would be a completely different case as then it wouldn't be right to jump a few divisions. But now they just apply to join the pyramid at the bottom, that's how any new team should join.

If B-teams were to join in the bottom tier and work their way up I would still have been against them as I'm against B-teams in principle, but at least they'd do it in the right way instead of jumping ahead of tons of clubs.
