New clubs in the East of Scotland

Recommended Posts

Two years ago all the clubs committed to carry on the competition and that they would play the tournament to a finish each year. It had become more difficult to fit in ties over the years so it was agreed that teams would proactively arrange their matches and if they couldn't fit a match in to their schedule they would simply scratch to allow the competition to progress. That is what now happens and this regularly used to happen in the Fife Cup and many local cups. Every club played in the competition in the last 2 years.

We played an hour, it's more than abit of a stretch to claim success with that.

Confirmation that the 2nd amateur team was indeed Musselburgh Windsor.

Musselburgh windsor did apply but were told 2 days before the AGM that their ground did not meet the criteria, nor did they have a sufficient enough plan to make it so before the start of the season.

They were advised to withdraw their application rather than be rejected on the night to spare any blushes.

The windsor have a plan but dont quite have the finance in place to see it to fruition.

They'll be back next year though.

Two clubs in Musselburgh with separate facilities but chasing the same £ doesn't sound a clever idea to me.

Anyone know what the score is with late applications, can a team try and join after the EGM? Obviously there is still room for a handful more to make 2 x 16, would the EoS consider anyone who applies late and call another EGM?

I guess anything is possible before an AGM.  It's either Yes or No.

Stick with your refereeing Mr Oldandround.

One of the oldest cup competitions in Scotland is continuing when most of the other county cups have fallen by the wayside. All the members are actively participating and indeed there is a new member and prospect of others joining. A few years ago the competition was not being completed - it's not much of a stretch to claim success at all. Sometimes it's good to try and preserve a bit of the game's heritage. We aren't going for a lucrative TV deal or a place for the winners in the Europa League but happy to see the progress made

That was just a freak that you game wasn't completed due to a serious injury to one of your players who I think had to wait about 40 minutes for an ambulance to arrive, these things happen like it did at Montrose recently.

Simply meant there's no fixed dates, and both editions have seen a Semi-Final scratched.

No question big progress made on the preceding abandonments/awarding to the winner of the only tie played.

It has never had fixed dates clubs just try and slot the games in when they have a space in their callander. On us and the Rovers part probably weeks we don't have a scheduled reserve game same with the Pars and EF if they return to reserve football next season, Shippy I would imagine would want to play us early doors at the start of next season when the light is still good due to their lack of floodlights, while Kelty will be keen to get their game with the Rovers on as it should provide quite an attraction for them as it will be their first game in the cup.

At least Fife has made the effort to keep the cup going while other areas let theirs slip once there wasn't the carrot of an SFA blazer on offer.

Boness also in a believe late application

Latest from Bo'ness:

https://www.linlithgowgazette.co.uk/sport/football/bo-ness-united-to-stick-in-junior-football-for-time-being-1-4719195

Chairman Iain Muirhead told the Bo’ness Journal: “We were one of the 99 clubs who responded favourably to the recent questionnaire asking if we would like to quit the juniors  to join the SFA’s Pyramid system. “But I definitely think there should be some way for junior clubs like ourselves to get to the senior ranks without having to go through the East of Scotland League route. “Now Tom Johnston (SJFA secretary) has to go away and hold his EGM and AGM, have discussions with the SFA with a view to taking the proposals forward. “We would be interested in joining the senior ranks. “Now it is up to Tom to say: ‘This is what we think will happen’ and there will be a further discussion.”

Lowland League tweet: Good luck to both @KeltyHeartsFC & @LTHVF in their head to head title decider this afternoon - what a season it's been in the @EastScotlandFA! The winner will play @ThreaveRoversFC to find out who joins us in the Lowland League next season.

Confirmation that LTHV are/will be licensed and eligible for promotion?

That's an almost comical misrepresentation of the survey.

I'm staying put on this thread now. It's getting a bit too acrimonious on the junior thread. There are some very bitter guys over there, Armadale, what are they like? All the best for the new clubs in the EOS next season. Hopefully I can persuade she who must be obeyed that she fancies a trip to Edinburgh so I can catch a couple of games.
Spend long enough on the junior forum and like me, you'll learn to automatically filter out the headbangers. Don't let the idiots ruin it for you - there are plenty of decent posters about and we could always do with some more!

So, with Spartans getting utterly bodied by Cove and looking like staying down how does that impact the EOS for next season as people were talking about 1 or 2 teams coming down from the LL.

2 come down from the LL, if Cove win the playoff against Cowdenbeath. Hawick & Vale of Leithen would be the clubs.

Hawick are guaranteed to be playing EOS football next season... Kelty will still be doing so if they lose the playoff to Threave over the next 2 Saturdays... Vale of Leithen will also come down if Cove finish the job against Spartans and go on to beat Cowdenbeath, unless they can overtake Dalbeattie (which would entail beating Cumbernauld at home on Wednesday and Dalbeattie at Islecroft in a last-day decider on Saturday).

So still 0/1/2 net gain possible.

In future seasons, what would happen if Elgin (or another Highland League area club) finished bottom of League Two and the Lowland League champion won the playoff?   Would they promote an extra EoS/SoS team or would they have no relegation from the LL?  Hopefully the former.

Current rules would have the vacancy open to applications, the 16th place team in that year's Lowland League would also be eligible to apply.
