New clubs in the East of Scotland

Recommended Posts

Where Duns FC and the likes of Kelso United, St Bernard's & Musselburgh Windsor fit into things is an interesting question in how those aspiring to join the pyramid conflict with the SJFA as a body taking over lower tiers or exist in parallel to the EoSFL/SoSFL.

Someone said across in the Junior forum that theres time for late applications before AGM, really?

I'm sure someone from Kelty can provide some insight into how late, their late application was last year. I'd imagine they might look favourably on the 'right' candidates until the various playoffs have been decided. Until those are done the numbers are already up in the air.

There have been late applicants in recent times, some of them successful... Gretna 2008 were a late applicant, I'm pretty sure Hibs EOS were a late applicant, perhaps my mind is deceiving me but were Kelty not a late applicant last season? Until this season even routine applications weren't considered until the AGM anyway.

So, with Spartans getting utterly bodied by Cove and looking like staying down how does that impact the EOS for next season as people were talking about 1 or 2 teams coming down from the LL.

Spartans 2  Cove  1  (agg 2-5)

Now on to Cove v Cowdenbeath .  Dalbeattie & Vale of Leithen getting nervous about relegation.

Not the East of Scotland League but I believe Nithsdale Wanderers rejoined the South of Scotland League a WEEK or so before the season began. Perhaps cmontheloknow can confirm.

ETA - it was three weeks before the season started according to that season’s Scottish Non League Review. Nithsdale didn’t enter the season-opening cup. Suspect in the EoS it would come down to if the league desperately wanted more members.

Maybe, but when is the EoS AGM usually held ?

Have Duns been re-incarnated along with Kelso like?

Certainly were belated entrants in other respects, they played their first game on 4th August '01, missing the League Cup (28/7) and the first round of league fixtures (1/8).

The Duns team in the Border Amateur League B is I believe a continuation of the EoSFL outfit.

My point was more relating to 2019-20 when the SJFA hope to be integrated into the pyramid. If they run leagues parallel to the EoSFL/SoSFL. Those clubs named, by opting for the EoSFL/SoSFL, can enter at a higher tier than the lowest Junior league. This would also mean that Juniors could still move to the EoSFL/SoSFL and get to a higher tier through applications.

If you let the SJFA as a body take over say Tier 7 below. Then you're forcing amateurs to join the SJFA, when all they really want is a SFA Licence. The likes of Duns, Kelso, Windsor & St. Bernard's aren't looking to join the EoSFL for promotion up the pyramid, but for a licence and gradual improvement as clubs. So why force them to join two associations when they only want something from one of them.

As someone asked on the Junior Forum, when does the "cooling off" period end, for the EoS applicants ?

Just heard :  Vale of Leithen drew 4-4 with Cumbernauld, and will finish in 15th position in the SLL (not Dalbeattie, unless VoL defeat DS 9 nil in their  final league game of the season. So VoL will be another  'new' club in the EoS, if Cove defeat Cowdenbeath in the final play-off.

Yeah they lost alot of players, hence the reason they left EOS. I've stated various times, it's hard for borders teams to get players due to them all wanting to play with pals or not wanting to play 'serious' football.

Statement from EoS on The Sun Juniors Facebook page,

The East of Scotland Football League is very pleased ...to announce that the undernoted Clubs have applied for, and been accepted into, membership of the League commencing from Season 2018/2019.
The structure of the League will be decided once we have a final number of participants as this could still change between now and our Annual General Meeting on 7 June due to the possible relegation of one other Club from the Scottish Lowland Football League and to allow the League to consider any late applications for membership.

Clubs accepted

Blackburn United
Bonnyrigg Rose
Camelon Juniors
Crossgates Primrose
Dalkeith Thistle
Dunipace
Easthouses Lily
Edinburgh United
Haddington Athletic
Hill o’ Beath Hawthorn
Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts
Musselburgh Athletic
Tranent Juniors

Interesting last bit there, are they hoping for more applicants or are they fishing to try and catch something?
