New clubs in the East of Scotland

With 3 Conferences each with 13 teams there will each week be 3 teams without a game.

It would be very easy for the EoSL to set up a cup competition incorporating those teams without a league game as each week they will be different teams.

Round 1:
Conference A teams v Conference C teams
13 teams progress

Round 2:
Conference B teams v winners of Round 1
13 teams progress

This would mean that teams would be able to play competitive games during the season against teams from the other Conferences.

Each weekend of the season only one team in the EoSL will be left without a game.

Final Rounds

13 teams compete at the end of the season in the final rounds.
[Conference Champions might drop out if competing in the Championship Playoffs].

Any views on benefits / disbenefits of this type of "fill-in" competition?

Just rein it in a bit and get the divisions sorted out.

They're already intending to fit existing cup competitions around when teams have bye weeks.

With the Lowland League maintaining one up, one down, for almost all clubs it won't be very far.

Even still John, it's part of the pyramid and is already a better standing than all would have had if they had remained in the sjfa.... Thanks for gracing us with your presence though..... Happy trolling John.

I’d be astounded if another relegation spot (auto/playoff) doesn’t emerge in the Lowland. The post-AGM statement was carefully worded to announce changes in the near future, likely awaiting the EoS and SoS final shapes.

As I've said before on the LL thread the LL has a new committee now voted in from their recent AGM.

It's most probably the right thing to do but if the SPFL stick wi their stance on promotion it might prove difficult to get the LL to vote for 2 relegations.

Interesting times ahead.....

2 spots even with the current spfl/hl/ll playoff seems fair enough.

Threat of a 3rd team relegated only applies in rather rare circumstances due to playoff ramifications.

Also has the chance that a team in a EoS/SoS promotion opportunity is unlicensed. So might not even have anyone able to be promoted.

Can’t believe the turnaround from that 1st season after the LL exodus, to this.

Don't even need to go that far back. Just over a year Duns resigned and there were only 10 clubs + Stirling Uni EoS in the league. Craigroyston and Easthouses had switched to Junior the year before and there was no movement between the EoS and LL. It's ludicrous that they're now quadrupled their membership and overtaken the East Juniors in such a short time frame.

Heard the impasse is with SPFL 2 sides who are vigorously resisting an automatic relegation. IMO for the pyramid to function LL champions MUST be promoted as right, same as every other league anywhere and once that's sorted the LL will be more in the mood to talk to the EOSL

What about HL champions? (Rhetorical question). We don't have a national conference to drop in to yet for SPFL clubs. If you had automatic relegation now, you'd still need a play off. Unless you think you could create 2 relegation places or introduce a very fluid geographic configuration when it was needed.

SPFL 2 is effectively our conference. I don't think it would take much forclubs higher up to cut them adrift and make it official.

Yes the bottom club in SPFL 2 should be relegated automatically.  However they should be replaced by the winner of the HFL v SLFL play-offs, not only by the Lowland champions. Two up/two down is a bridge too far at present.

The SoSL "shape" has been agreed.

Sixteen clubs next season, with the return of Wigtown & Bladnoch now confirmed.

That only works if they fix the cup draws, which seems unlikely.

Otherwise, if club A draw club B ( from a different conference) in round 1, there's only a 1 in 13 chance that they'll share a free league weekend. And even if they do it could be late in the season. Not much help really.

I don't think it's time for automatic promotion/relegation yet.

When promotion was granted to non-league teams in England, there were at least a dozen sides that were more than capable of stepping up, and most promoted sides went on to gain another promotion within 2 or 3 years.

In Scotland, only 1 out of 4 non-league sides has proved to be better than Team 42 so far.  As the Lowland League becomes stronger in the next few years and HL/LL teams start to win the play offs, then they can justifiably claim for an automatic place.

The Scottish non-league sides are still in the process of closing the gap between league and non-league. But the pyramid still works, because the mechanism for promotion/relegation is there.

What have I missed? :whistle

Can someone provide the final list of clubs moving please.

All teams other than Blackburn pulled out and joined TJ's Superduper league instead.

I don't actually,  being in another Continent and having you mobile phone "re-allocated" to a new owner isn't a good combination for keeping track of what's going on.

Sauchie, Oakley, St Andrews, Dundonald, Newtongrange, Lithgae, Bo'ness, Broxburn and Jeanfield are the ones that put in applications after Dunbar, Arniston, Craigroyson and Penicuik.
