As I've said before on the LL thread the LL has a new committee now voted in from their recent AGM. It's most probably the right thing to do but if the SPFL stick wi their stance on promotion it might prove difficult to get the LL to vote for 2 relegations. Interesting times ahead..... 2 spots even with the current spfl/hl/ll playoff seems fair enough. Threat of a 3rd team relegated only applies in rather rare circumstances due to playoff ramifications. Also has the chance that a team in a EoS/SoS promotion opportunity is unlicensed. (Rhetorical question). We don't have a national conference to drop in to yet for SPFL clubs. If you had automatic relegation now, you'd still need a play off. Unless you think you could create 2 relegation places or introduce a very fluid geographic configuration when it was needed. SPFL 2 is effectively our conference. However they should be replaced by the winner of the HFL v SLFL play-offs, not only by the Lowland champions. That only works if they fix the cup draws, which seems unlikely. Otherwise, if club A draw club B ( from a different conference) in round 1, there's only a 1 in 13 chance that they'll share a free league weekend. And even if they do it could be late in the season. I don't think it's time for automatic promotion/relegation yet. When promotion was granted to non-league teams in England, there were at least a dozen sides that were more than capable of stepping up, and most promoted sides went on to gain another promotion within 2 or 3 years. In Scotland, only 1 out of 4 non-league sides has proved to be better than Team 42 so far. As the Lowland League becomes stronger in the next few years and HL/LL teams start to win the play offs, then they can justifiably claim for an automatic place. The Scottish non-league sides are still in the process of closing the gap between league and non-league.
