She's been quiet recently so this has probably been in the works for a good while. Hopefully goes out with a bang. I've always thought she'd be planning her exit strategy. She's not stupid, she knows that the political position she occupies and praise she got for 2017 was massively down to a lot of things going her way at that time with SNP turnout being a bit lower along with a good strategy of unionist tactical voting. She's got no control of her MPs at Westminster with only really one or two allies and the more extreme element of the party rising has encouraged many of them reveal their true colours. She's basically just a glorified spokesperson with no real responsibility and for her own benefit, she'd be daft to be around when shit hits the fan and her brand gets damaged. She'll keep her status of a moderate caring conservative and cunning electoral strategist and that will sustain her well and pay far better than her work now for far less hassle. A few years down the line, she will undoubtedly get a peerage, especially if she steps out now. It'll be brilliant if she hits out at the party with a Johann Lamont type seethefest and I would respect that a lot more but I suspect that she's not the type to go nuclear.

Colkitto
It's been a hilarious day. It definitely feels like the dying days of the Union
sparky88
She will be parachuted into a safe English seat in an attempt to detoxify the party in a few years. Interesting to see if she resigns her seat.

John Lambies Doos
The union is dead. Even the most ardent unionists in Scotland are questioning the total disregard for Scotlands voice.Ha ha ha ha ha ha

I would never say this about any woman but this is special circumstances. Good riddance to the horrible Tory f**k. Ruth Davidson had as much influence over independence as she did over her London paymasters. A one-note political charlatan fawned over by English centrists without any actual grip on reality. But good riddance regardless as they won't exactly find a keeper from the rest of the non-entities in that dying branch office.

Colkitto
The Tories will get wiped out in the next WM election in Scotland. That's with or without wèe Ruthie as leader. She's savvy enough to know this and probably why she is getting out now
Cerberus
Guaranteed they’re will be some Scots that still vote for the Tories out of sheer tribalism, and cause they support Rangers.
ForzaDundee
In all seriousness, without wanting to sound misogynistic in anyway, has giving birth weakened Ruth's hardline views. There are chemical changes that happen in the brain with and motherhood and surely it just makes you a wee bit less of a c**t.

She knows that the wee surge the Tories had was a bounce against the monstrous surge the SNP had. Unsustainable. Both at Holyrood and Westminster. Deid. This is a convenient timing for her to get the parachute on. Took what she could an then ran away. Tory through and through.

D Angelo Barksdale
There's no denying that it's a big blow for the Unionists in Scotland. Davidson (and to a lesser extent Mundell) was the cuddly, acceptable face of Toryism, positioned by a compliant media as more liberal and different to the toxic Tories down south. A shield to hide the more rabid Brit Nats and the increased courting of the orange vote and the various bigots and racists that have been nominated as candidates for local elections and so on. We're now left with Alister Jack and probably Fraser or Tomkins. The mask hasn't just slipped, it's fallen right fucking off.
