Yorky
He gets my vote for this line. You have Celtic, Rangers, Aberdeen, Hibs and Motherwell. There is a place left there for the rest of us to fight out." I would never be that confident of Motherwell being certs for top five.
LIVIFOREVER
Nothing much wrong if he's claiming St Mirren should be looking for a top 6 finish, and saying if Livi can get 5th then why shouldn't they be looking at doing the same. Only thing is he's setting himself up by coming out publicly and saying it, if St Mirren end up battling relegation. Personally I like how Holt downplays our league ambition each season, staying under the radar, but it would be pretty boring if we didn't have characters like Fitzpatrick, giving it large.
houston_bud
I love Fitzy, you couldn't meet a nicer guy. Imagine getting wound up because a club's chief exec thinks they should push for top 6. I'd care more if he said all we want is 10th.

Folk in his position at similar sized clubs will be saying exactly the same thing behind the scenes. The difference is he is saying in the press. He is honest, passionate and ambitious. Big difference between saying it and doing it but he is right. If other clubs can do it, why can't we. Only thing I would say is our squad at the moment doesn't look like a top 6 team but were many folk saying that about Livi last season?Just because we haven't done it in 35 years doesn't mean we can never do it again. Jim Goodwin will love Tony's comments by the way, make no mistake about that.

sergie's no1 fan
So hope for Morton yet Well exactly. If Accies and Livi can get promoted there is no reason why the likes of Morton and Queen of the South can't.Again no offence to Accies or Livi, they have shown up so many clubs, ours included.
buddie06smfc
The only thing wrong with that interview is Tony Fitzpatrick getting drawn into the Hearts/Partick Thistle debacle. Should’ve dismissed it as their problem nothing to do with Saints and moved on. Top 6 isn’t outwith the realms of possibility however we’ll have a task getting anything out of Champions League winners Aberdeen.

Its the equivalent of Willie Miller coming out and claiming any Aberdeen side who doesn't win the Champions League is a failure, as that's where that club belong to be. Isn’t it just a case of ‘drunk man makes bold’ prediction. Give him a break ffs - better than the usual pish we hear from some clubs ‘we don’t have the budget to compete / we are punching above our weight etc etc.
Lex
Had Tony said we are aiming for the top 6, no problem. That’s a fine and reasonable aim for this season. For what it’s worth I think we have a pretty good shot at top 6 this year. Certainly at least as good a shot as any we’ve had in the last 30 years. He didn’t say that though, he said: ‘We will be in the top six. Make no mistake about it’ Y say that tho? Tony needs to stick to shaking hands and taking selfies in hospitality. Talking about the ‘87 cup win with the old guys. He’s good at that. As if top 6 is actually a thing to be proud of anyway. No one tells the story about how they were once part of a team who finished in the top 6. Anyway, keep Tony away from the media. If any journalist wants a comment from a St Mirren legend they should be directed to Steven Thompson. He’s handsome, he’s silky smooth and he’s already our defaqto spokesperson on the Beeb.

Lex I think it comes down to the journalist reporting it. I just read the Scotsman which you can read online also. It clearly reads Tony said , we should be aiming for a top six place. We all know how journalists like to twist what's been actually said.

I'm not sure you can go down the "he was misquoted" route when there's actual audio/video of him saying what @Lex has cited - "We will be in that top six. Make no mistake about it.'

He said both - first that we should be aiming for the Top6 as clubs like Livi had done it and then once he was relieved that he hadn't overstepped the mark and relaxed that we'd be doing it this season... He also backed both positions on the current Reconstruction saga - Tony-F all things to all men! ********************* No matter he'll always be Porn Star Tony to me!
