You can still go to the pubs and not to the game, and sit on pie and bovril flagging how much you're not going to the game.

But I am going so your weird smug old man routine is defunct.

There may well be, I’ve never personally been to an Airdrie game not involving Ayr however there is an added toxicity when it’s us. Some of their fans blame Bill Barr and by extension Ayr United as being partly to blame for killing their club.

Which is ironic considering the winding up order was from a catering company owned by Ironside Murray

The best way to improve the derby situation would be to have more Ayrshire teams in the league, ideally at the expense of Fife and Angus. This would also compel the Scottish Government to send troops into the Blighted East to break into the Rugby Park trophy room and liberate the Ayrshire Cup for the consumption of its more deserving sides.

I don't get why they won't play for the Ayrshire Cup. What claim do they have to keep it and not play for it again?

The Bill Barr era probably isn't even at the halfway point of when the rivalry started. Although in recent seasons it has quietened down a bit. Over the piece the two teams were in and around the same league with many relegation and promotion battles. Some of the games were quite fiery encounters.

There were also decades where knocking lumps out of the opposition fans was part of the matchday experience and both sides never missed an opportunity.

Don't think we've played each other in about 5 years though, and that last Ayr Airdrie game still had quite a hostile atmosphere to it.
