Why are some folk thinking there will be more than one TV game? There's only scheduled to be one in this round, which is going to be Kilmarnock v Rangers.

BT's deal allows them to show "up to" 13 matches.

Take off the final and two-semi-finals, that leaves 10. They've shown five group stage games, leaving them another five for the rest of the competition.

With the quarter-finals being midweek, it's impossible to show all four. That means they'll show at least two last-16 ties.

With both Celtic and Sevco away from home, it's a no-brainer for them.

Ah, I never realised there was some flexibility in the deal. I presumed it would simply follow the same schedule as last year.

Cheers.

They showed six group stage matches last season, which reduced their options for the knockout stage.

With Celtic and Sevco being drawn at home in the last-16, they opted to only show the Dundee derby, keeping their options open for the quarter finals.

They showed three midweek quarter-final matches last year (top 3 away from home), and only one midweek last 16 tie. However the last 16 this season is on a weekend so they might show a game on Saturday and Sunday?

When the TV deal got announced it was to be 6 group games (i.e. 2 each weekend) - I think that's largely been stuck to, perhaps they didn't show a 6th game one year? - and 7 knockout ties on the basis of 2 per round. However the last 2 seasons the R2 midweek clashed with the UEFA Supercup: in the first season SPFL let them hold-over the game and show 3 QFs... Tue-Wed-Thu... and they repeated that arrangement last season too. However as you say Sat-Sun in R2 and Tue-Wed in QFs might be more likely than showing just a single R2 game now it's a weekend, or maybe they can similarly hold-over a groupstage game into R2.

EDIT: Actually I see they only showed 5 groupstage games this season so looks likely.

... though worth saying that when the new format was first announced the Last 16 was to be un-seeded. By the time the competition started and the fine details formalised it had gone back to being seeded. So it could have been different.

Wee Cup early round on a weekend? What is this madness?

UEFA have put the European qualifying rounds back 1 week. (Actually 2 weeks - as it's coincided with an extra week needed a couple of times a decade to counter the slippage in the calendar. While we're on the subject that will be why the Final is now a week later, and has gone from late November to early December, as it couldn't be a Sunday if Celtic had a CL tie on the Tuesday).

That has obliterated the free midweek in August, being that which until a few years ago was used for international friendlies - and getting Scotland getting thumped in Norway in a qualifier as Gordon Smith couldn't negotiate our Euro qualifying fixtures very well .

Accordingly the next free domestic midweek isn't until late September, the one used for QFs: but if you put everything back a month to use it you wouldn't have time to get the Final in before Christmas. If a particular Premiership club is really unlucky it'll have failed to reach R2, then be down to play Semi-Finalist and a Finalist on their corresponding weekends: which coupled with international breaks could mean 6 blank Saturdays in 16 weeks from August 18th to December 1st :o...

He didn't say they weren't, tbf.

I'd agree that having any kind of seeding at that stage is nonsense.
