If that is the deal then on a per match basis we are on a par with most comparative leagues around Europe. I also like how it increases in years 4 and 5. I hope like most they will sort out the dismal coverage / presenting team. Bye bye BT the season after next. A good product but clearly could bot care much whether they kept the rights.

I admire Walker's ability to completely ignore slow mo replays showing the exact opposite of what he is saying happened. flyingscot
Be interesting to see if Sky develop the game a bit more. Not hopeful with the twitter announcement featuring only Rangers and Celtic pics... Best move they could make is to get same production team as BT have now. BT have cut back but I think it is the way sports rights are going with no need to be on TV platforms and streaming services coming on. Sky must have been desperate with loss of a lot of sport content, but I bet they will be asking questions if they overpaid!

boulderdomb
We can dream of them hiring the now old BT staff and completely revamping how they broadcast and market our game although I doubt it. As much as I am disappointed that Sky have won the rights, money talks and frankly BT couldn't have rated us that highly or genuinely have no money left. Something must be happening with BT Sports due to the amount of rights now lost outwith football - UFC etc. The best part of this entire deal is the more live championship games, I think that could be great for us going forward whether that will mean more free championship games or if we could see (from 2025) even more money pumped into the league with BT/Sky/Premier/Some live streaming service paying more money for these games too. Is there an updated chart showing how our new deal now compares to other leagues around Europe?

I suspect it's more to do with BT having their fingers burnt by massively overpaying for the UCL.
Luke92
So to review the EFL have been given 595m (albeit for more games and more clubs) and we have been given around 160m. Championship clubs down south are presumably kicking off that this isn't enough meanwhile we are to accept 160m and be so very grateful for it. We are essentially getting a similar deal to what we had with Setanta 10 years ago. Granted they were throwing about money but how can these figures be acceptable 10 years later. Generally speaking live sport is hugely in demand just now. The reason for this is that less people actually watch live television. This means that adverts during live sports are worth bigger money. Clearly we don't get the viewing figures that some other leagues get but even still the value of the deal should be much higher. This deal is dug meat and has less games meaning the majority of the games are now going to all feature one half of the Old Firm. This is all Sky actually care about, they are holding on to the majority of the general Sky market in Scotland with this deal and nothing more. They will put no effort into this whatsoever. Really the SPFL should have been making demands here at the very least if they were unable to drive up the price. For example, new format, new pundits, new kick off times, more investment. It's not rocket science really.

GNU_Linux
Regarding BT & the UCL theres rumours they may not bid on it in the next round of auctioning in 2019 as they cant match or better their current deal so they appear to fecked.
Mordecai
Setanta was £55m over 5 years, covering 60 games a season. So £180k a match. New deal is £625k per match.Where are you getting that from? It was widely reported at the time as being £125M for 4 years. Obviously it didn't quite transpire that way...

Subsequently no Celtic or Rangers games will be on a Saturday at 3pm. Seems legit...
