Not really sure what your point is. They have other items, but their prime focus is specialising in cheese. The shops have about 75% cheese and 25% other items.

Also, the name of the shop is I.J Mellis Cheesemonger

I can't think of any cheese that goes well with mustard. Chutney's another thing. For some reason, maybe to get the St Andrews shop publicity, they want to differentiate themselves from other delis.

So it's actually the local cheese, meat, chutney and oatcake shop then.

I missed that I added that post to one involving meat, causing confusion.

If it's a selection of chutney and oatcakes to go with the cheese, then it's a cheesemonger.  When cheese is 'just another product they sell', then that's a deli.

My butcher sells rolls, fruit/veg etc alongside the meat, but is still very clearly a butcher.

Working today... had people queuing to get in at 11am . Had one boy at 8am who got pissed off because we were shut.

Do it all again tomorrow but this time we open at 9am.

He's going to be pissed off again tomorrow then, but just not for so long.

Where do you work? Generally not specifically. Walked down Ayr high st today and only coffee shops and Tesco metro open.

I was in the Hilltown Tesco earlier.

It was shut so it was the perfect time to rob the b*****d*

*It wasn't really shut. I purchased some sausage rolls, some shortbread and some crisps.

Only c*nts shop on New Years Day. If no-one did it, shopworkers would have a holiday too.

As recently as the 1980's, everything (including pubs and clubs) shut at 10:30 pm on the 31st, and didn't reopen until the 2nd. Is it too much to ask to return to that?

If the shops were shut I bet most of the people who went to them today wouldn't have complained. Probably only went because they could, they were off work, and couldn't be bothered waiting till the weekend.

People are weird. There's no *need* for anything other than vital public services to be open on New Year's Day. Corporate greed is the real reason they open.

Why do you care if they are open on New Year's Day?

I don't feel that anyone should have to be forced to work on Xmas day or New Years Day unless they are providing an essential service. Selling me a bag of tatties or a bottle of beer/wine doesn't fall into that category.

Next is shut on new years day yet opens 6AM boxing day.

So Next reckon there staff are to have a shitey Xmas day staying sober and trying to figure out how to get to work on Boxing day but are allowed to have a blinding Hogmanay.

Anyone explain this shit to me?

I'm with you.

Given the internet if people want to shop on Xmas day, Boxing day or New year's day then they can knock themself out on Amazon.

You just know staff in the shops are paid a shitey wage too.

When I was in Hungary, I was talking to a chap who said that when there are national holidays - the owner / boss of a business can demand that his employees can work  - but only if he turns up for work himself. Seems fair enough.

I can't remember the details, but when I worked there Poland operated a similar system. I agree, it's fair enough.

I'm not sure how it works now, but when I was a student (15 years ago, help mah boab) I worked in a bar/restaurant and we were always shut on New Year's Day. Only day of the year the place was closed. Don't know if that's still how it's done.

I wouldn't have went in if it wasn't open. I was vainly hoping they'd have fresh lasagne sheets. They didn't. I had to soak the dry ones then cut them to fit.

I hope you can remember the secret to a good lasagne....

Pineapple.
