English Premier League 2019-20

Regardless of which people are operating it, the technology is not good enough to make a decision that precise.
Absolutely. There is no way they can make calls that close while still waving the term "clear and obvious" around. There is no way an assistant could be expected to spot that toe being offside.

Where the ball is going after the handball is not relevant to whether it is a foul. The only question is whether it is deliberate.
I see what you mean. That makes sense. I didn't think it had to be deliberate now though.

Not to sound like a conspiracy theorist but why havent we seen a the replay/VAR decision for the second goal?
I think the problem with hand ball is no one really knows what's happening with the rule! Didnt the Premier League reject UEFA or fifa's version of the handball rule?
Because they've fucked it up. The same reason goal line technology isn't 100% accurate even though they would have you believe it is.

It is strange we haven't seen the lines because surely they would need to do that before confirming the goal. Unless they decided just to ignore controversial VAR checks in a big game. Like how a standard yellow card challenge isn't a yellow in an Old Firm.

If it negates giving Man City a hypothetical goal, surely it should negate giving them a penalty as well?

The LOTG have simply been changed so that attackers cannot score a goal with their arm, even if it's accidental, or gain possession/control and then score or create a goal scoring opportunity. Makes it simpler for everyone, especially refs, and it's what football wants/expects.

No point making it more complicated by adding in penalties, corners, free kicks to the list of things that cannot be awarded after it accidentally touches an attackers arm.

As for offside on the 2nd goal - we've seen from the offside decisions this season it's difficult to judge 2D images, need the 3D system to get the lines added to the knees/armpits...

Which shows that he’s clearly onside when the ball is played.

Tbf you cant say that until you see the VAR line. Sheffield United had a player offside yesterday a literal millimetre.

Doesn’t really complicate things much, does it, though?

If a player dives, his team can’t score a goal in the same passage of play. He can’t be given a penalty either, or get a corner.

Same here.
