Thanks for the update
Kuro
Its a good rule of thumb that any football fan who ever says anything along the lines of passing the ball backwards and sideways too much is an absolute moron who knows diddly squat about the game. Watch Xavi, go and youtube him, maybe the best passer of all time, around 80% of his passes would be sideways or backwards. That's football, unless you are playing a girl guides team it simply isn't feasible to pass the ball forwards most of the time. Attitudes like that are why we are so bad at football. And 'passing is okay as long as it is with a purpose' is also nonsense, sometimes the purpose is simply to keep the ball.
Kuro
Watch this, probably the greatest passing sequence you'll ever see, and as good as football can possibly be played. You'll notice most of the passes are sideways or backwards, and that's the best team in the world at their best, opening up one of the best defences in the world at the time.
Kuro
Oh look, another of the greatest passing goals of all time, again you'll notice forward passes are in the minority. You can only pass forward when its on and when there's value to doing it
Kuro
The best passing team in the world scoring a goal after 42 passes, most of them sideways or backwards. Anybody who talks about a player as squarebaw etc is a fucking moron.

Actually under rated by people in Scotland, cause most people here don't know anything about football. Like you for example, with your forward pass comment. Watch this about Guardiola, the best manager in the world, and how his teams play. You'll notice most of their passes are sideways or backwards. That's football, that's how you play the game.
19QOS19
It's a good job you're here with your infinite knowledge of the game to keep us right then.

Guardiola isn’t the best manager in the worldHe just happens to have managed teams with the best players in the worldThe way to play football is getting the ball forward
Jeremiah Cole
Oh look, another of the greatest passing goals of all time, again you'll notice forward passes are in the minority. You can only pass forward when its on and when there's value to doing it Most goals are scored from a passing move containing 1 pass or less All 3 goals on Friday came directly from a move containing zero passes Most goals are scored from a regain of possession in the attacking third The goals you are highlighting are all outliers
GordonS
Most goals are scored from a passing move containing 1 pass or lessMost goals are scored from a regain of possession in the attacking thirdThe goals you are highlighting are all outliers In the 1990s English football proved that that stat is meaningless. The 'get it forward' mentality is why Scotland and England are among the biggest underachievers in world football.I can't believe this is still a matter of debate.
54_and_counting
Keeping the ball by passing it sideways or even backwards is actually a good tactic if Your team is focused enough to keep the ball for however long they need to The passers have the vision and ability to spot the spaces when they eventually open up The attacking players have the vision and ability to create and move into said spaces for the midfield to pass to Scotland cannot do any of the 3 above against most teams because they arent as good as most teams, hence why it looks shite when Scotland try it,
