Turns out it wasn't him being missing that was responsible for Brighton's terrible form.

They've been brutal recently

Their injury list is still pretty long

Riding the pine this afternoon.

That's good news these days. I was worried that his recent injuries were due to him being overused.

What a relief to see Gilmour selected last night.  I thought he was superb, and this is a pretty good article:

Makes the fair point that Gilmour's brilliant passing has the downside that our shaky defenders can't cope with it very well, and Ralston's error came from getting the ball and panicking. Maybe Clarke made this calculation pre-Germany - that Gilmour is too good for the defence behind him?!

In a round about way you could say that. Horses for courses is more of a straightforward way of looking at it. I don't see a reason to complicate it further than that. Scotland will analyse the opponents strengths and weaknesses. Formulate a strategy around that analysis. Pick a team based on that strategy.

Any full-back at any level can expect a pass back from a midfielder under pressure. Unless we're suggesting that without Gilmour the ball should never touch the ground in our own half when in possession.

If Gilmour had received a decent pass from Hanley instead of that abomination, he could have moved the ball on instead if having to waste time getting it under control first. Only gave it to Ralston as no other option with Swiss players all around him.

I don't disagree with either of you. The goal wasn't Gilmour's fault. He should start every game for us IMO.

The extra seconds that gilmour manages to find and use of the ball is the type of midfield game that scotland need to build around

Counter attacking football needs at least one person with gilmours traits or else your counter attackers don't have a chance to counter attack

Boy is tremendous in the middle of the park and should be first name on the teamsheet with mctominay
