Was it Burchill, Davidson and someone else who were taken along as 'hamper boys'? Perhaps it needs less of a patronising title, but taking 2 or 3 of the very best of our U21s along to a tourney, to train with the squad, could be valuable and highly motivational. No idea if their clubs would allow it, or if the players would rather spend the summer playing on skateboards and stuff, but worth thinking about. Guest
I'm pretty sure that if Gilmour justifies a call up to the full squad then he'll get it, however at the moment he's miles behind guys like McGinn, McTominay, Christie, McGregor and even Jack & Armstrong. I also watched him in the U21 match the other night and while tidy he quite frankly failed to stand out or dictate a game up against 10 men for much of the 2nd half. Don't get me wrong, I'm far from writing the boy off, however we should all have a bit of a reality check here and let him develop at his own pace, Lampard will look after him at Chelsea and WHEN he's ready for a call up then I'm sure he'll get one..............

Just about sums it up. A great prospect, no doubt about it, but still a long way to go. The U21's on Friday were exceptionally disappointing and Gilmour failed to get a grip of the midfield against 10 men. The Greeks looked a whole lot more physical in that area, and to be honest you never noticed they were a man down.

YassinMoutaouakil
Div Turnbull's back running on treadmills now so young William better get his act together soon before he slips further down the pecking order.
Rodhull
Looks like Chelsea will be back splashing the cash pretty Soon. Gilmour to spend the next few seasons being farmed out on loan I guess.

I fully expect them to continue to stockpile younger players as they have been doing for years, but I'm not sure I see Lampard going out and spending hundreds of millions on his first team when he's having great success nurturing the talent he has. I can see Lampard still giving him his chance when he deserves it.

They're 4th and absolutely miles off the top, considering who their owner is, its daft to predict anything about that club.

I highly doubt Chelsea's aim under a transfer embargo was winning the league. To be 4th and have bedded in the younger guys they have I'd say they're having a successful season, yes. I also wasn't predicting anything, just saying I don't see Lampard now forgetting about youth.

The transfer embargo is a total red herring. They, technically, still spent over £100m in the Summer getting Kovacic permanently and Pulisic completing his transfer. This apparent philosophy of youth will vanish soon enough.
eez-eh
It was said on one of the Tifo football podcasts (who are usually quite well informed) that Abramovich is supposedly happy that some of the youth players are finally being put to use. Whether that will last if their season whimpers out, who knows. Edited December 6, 2019 by eez-eh
Nightmare
They were originally banned from signing players until summer 2020. He wasn't going to break into the first team before then anyway, so the fact it's reduced to this transfer window makes little difference to Gilmour's chances. Chelsea splashing the cash will undoubtedly make it harder for him to break into the team a few years down the line, but unless they had a multi-year ban from transfers (which was never the case), its impact on him was always going to be minimal.
Gordopolis
Good to see him getting a run out in the FA Cup today. It's been a while since he was even on the bench so it is good to know he's not been totally forgotten about
craigkillie
He has officially been promoted to the senior squad at Chelsea, though I'm not entirely sure what that actually means in practice. Presumably it makes him a bit more likely to get some game time, which is good news - based on his performance against Man Utd in the cup I think he still has some way to go physically, so this should help.
The Moonster
I assumed it just meant he will now train with the first team squad and be in contention for that squad rather than being with the U23's, but he may well already have been doing that. Clear that he's well liked by Lampard though.
Carnoustie Young Guvnor
He's absolutely top drawer. Will be the first Scottish hundred million pound player, and could play for any team in the world.

Might turn out a disaster but it'll be better than spending eight years at Chelsea, making three Carabao Cup appearances and spending six years on loan to Dutch second division clubs. Billy Gilmour, take note. I still think he should've followed Harvey St Clair's example and gone to Venezia
